Well, it's very expencive issue. Too much CPU/GPU resources needed. Now we search other resolve.

I copy pasta'd this from another thread:

Too taxing? Oh goodness.

Just so everyone knows, when done properly removing things from render or making them transparent will actually reduce CPU & GPU load.

If it is increasing load in XO that means almost all of the terrain features in the game are not their own spatial object(s) but instead is in the same wiremesh. Which actually makes a ton of sense seeing how collision with static objects behaves in this game and how ridiculous it is.

---

You can fix this by:

  • A: Retrofitting the maps, replace all the current foliage and sight obstructing objects with new spatial objects that differ from the terrain wiremesh. These new spatial objects have their own definition and can easily be filtered out for render/not render depending on proximity to the player camera.
  • B: Add outlines to vehicles (at the primary visual layer, so they 'cut through' all other visuals and appear superimposed on the foliage, pipes, building outcroppings that obstruct view) when the game detects terrain wiremesh between the player craft and the player camera. For a craft to have an outline it must be detected by radar.
  • C: Add an area of render fade around the player camera, ideally a cone that projects from the player camera to the player craft and then terminates, but if that is too resource intensive there are other shapes that work reasonably well.
