Le Sauvage Coup de Jour

I'll start by saying thanks to the developers for creating such a beautiful game. When you're hot you're hot. I've been playing like an addict again for the last two weeks or so...and it's been a blast. Usually I don't take the time to give the developers any positive feedback, but I almost always have the time to complain when I think the game sucks. It's what I do. The reason, of course, is that if it doesn't suck, I'm playing it instead of  hitting the forum to tell the developers, "Hey, great game!". If it sucks, obviously I can find the time away from a crummy experience to whine about it here on the forum. It's probably not right. Whatever....Hey Developers, great game! I'm having a blast...and I even kicked a little Christmas cash your way (don't tell the kids) as a way to say thanks...that and somebody stole all my stuff while I had the game uninstalled, so I had to do something, but that's a different story...sort of. Because all my schizz got ganked, I had to start over and what I found was I was having a lot of fun with very minimal equipment; fun I wasn't having before (I uninstalled the game because it sucked). At first I thought (and still ponder) I would use the occasion to upgrade the account to something more orange and less diverse. I'll take "Legs and Cannons," for the win, Alex...ya, not so much. It's so slow. Can't. Move. Fire. Burn. Must. Run....it's not gonna happen. I love velocity. It's in my blood. I ride motorcycles and my son flies airplanes, so it's getting worse, not better. But, I'm an artist first. I love pretty. Pretty-fast. Sometimes I eat nothing but pretty for days until it makes me sick. This game is an enabler. My enabler.
What I have found, is that I like to art-build. I like to art-build more than I hate to lose. My habit is to build a different car every session. The ones that work, I keep. Sometimes I create builds that are purposely awkward or difficult just for the challenge. I don't keep those, but sometimes they're cool and I hate just putting all that attention into something and then just tossing it...So I'm going to post some of my daily builds here. Most of these builds will be pretty cheap too...er, "resourceful."
Shotguns seem to be what's working for me lately, so I got a Goblin and gave it a whirl. This build is too low on health to survive long but it didn't do too bad neither. It was fun. I'd been having a hard time finding that here, but there it is...Thanks again, Devs. Keep up the good work.

Well, the wife and kids are gone, so I'm getting the hell off this forum and back into the Wasteland to do my build for the day. Adios and Merry Gronchmas.

Wow, really nice little car!  Especially like the use of that Growl skin.  It really fits in with everything else.  Good job!

Today's grinder...I'll probably roll this one around at least until I get enough scrap to  build a buzz-saw. I've been through a lot of different arrangements this weekend, but it's kinda settled here. As long as I can find a group to ride along with it works great at stripping guns and tires off and feeding the dogs. I noticed the other day that as long as my team wins I get paid.

This is where I was this morning. I saved it because it was fun and it worked better than I expected. I bought the "Bully(?)" pack  and I was trying to make sense of the "Favorite" cab. I gave up and threw this Duster in there, and then I got hooked on the natural colors and weird textures. I started a Christmas fender , too.

I thought I'd take a break, log my build, and just say I'm enjoying the holiday event, Obviously. Thanks, Devs...and Grumpy Gronchmas, t'all.

By the time the night ended, I stripped the above model down to this, and I like it better.

I'm liking this for today, and it has been in my rotation for a couple days now.  It's been morphing. It does well on some maps and not so great on others, and it is a good support vehicle for disrupting sniper nests. It still needs something, but I haven't figured it out yet. I'm finding I lean a lot towards the Lunatics faction. My wife and kids would agree.

Often my most crucial weapon is all the damage I have weighing down my front-end.  That's your K-bar, your bayonette, even after your Guns are shot off, if you still have wheels, and some Hatchets left, you can still do some damage.

If you can make it look good, or at least Savage, you pretty much win in the garage.  At least if I'm keeping score, +1!

As you will probably notice if you visit my threads, I have a similar philosophy. I refer to the kinds of cars you build as semi-art builds because they have an aesthetic appeal while still being effective in battle.

One of the things I enjoy about this game is seeing the creative ways other art-builders use the available pieces. I first noticed how well you use them in your first aqua-colored car, and I like the snarling, growling look of your most recent one.

Here's where I'm at for tonight. I thought the PS was too high at 5375, but it doesn't do bad if the team's a team AND I'm on the right map...or I get lucky and somebody makes a mistake. I'm new to this tier and people play a bit different. For instance; the drones I'm hunting stay with their group more. That's a problem for me. The cannons their friends have are terrible, and they're good quick shots with them too. But however it goes, this thing makes a mess when it hits. I think I've only bagged two drone boats though. Our team won those matches too. It's been way more fun to grind drones than it was to grind resources. I still get resources...No Meat Grinders yet.

I would agree. From my perspective, I think that proper design should involve proper symmetry. I'm not an engineer (way too much math), so I'm trying to punk the system with my art pass. For example: I see sharks as beautiful and symmetrical, but I understand that to be an expression of advanced functionality. They're shaped that way because it's efficient. I see it as beautiful. I'm hoping for some crossover, I guess. Sometimes I hit it, but it takes a lot of failure (and a little help) to be successful, because it isn't just art. I'm not sure Picasso would fly here, but  sometimes I get frustrated and I just toss some wonky garbage together and it works. The other day I got three kills with an idiotic Duster build that had no armor at all. It was built with all pass-through pieces and decor. Our team still lost, but if they all had the same stupid Picasso I was rolling in we would have slaughtered the red team. So, IDK...the mole-rat is a real thing too, just like the shark. Symmetry is a strange thing.

Anyway, I got my Meat Grinders (solid deal), and so I threw this together to get some grind on and learn the crazy wheels. I played 4 rounds of PVP and we won every time, and I even survived to the end to get my gas rewards. I'm betting meaner fish will be out tomorrow.  I'll see how well it does then.

This Morning's Coffee Raider. I need more coffee...and copper. I want to build a Classic Nomad cruiser, but I don't even have a Wyvern anymore. I got the Golden Eagle stupid cheap, right off the bat, so I threw this together to go get some copper. What I like about raids is that I don't have to try too hard. I can build more freely and more for sport rather than survival. This one seemed to build itself. Works great for what it is.

Sweet!

The Wyvern is a crap part, and that Gowl skin looks so much nicer anyway.

The Wyvern is a crap part,

This is why I must make it work. It's the same character flaw that keeps me playing Crossout, probably. I'm stupid like that. I'm just certain that there is some combination of parts that is a sweet spot for that thing. I've had some luck with battleship like designs, with all the guns in a long boat-like row.  The rig flipped around like a propeller if I could get the center of gravity right...it almost worked. I'll toss another jab at it this evening. I think I got the copper I needed with the rig above. It did so well in easy raids ( I think I have one more to do to get the bonus) that I did the last one entirely in reverse and still got first place. Doing that seems to confuse the AI. It worked way better than I expected. I was trying not to be a hog, but I still ended up being the one who gassed up the generators and knocked out all the sentinels. People are lazy. They basically want to just sit there and click the button like they're in a casino playing slots. Those are the kinds of sniper nests I like that Lunatic melee-bat build for. I love to raze the ritz. I might get cancelled but it's fun to watch them desperately hobble around on two wheels while the rest of the crew has them for lunch afterwards. That sitting in the balcony firing on the peons thing they do, well, I feel obligated to rain on that parade if I can.
I feel like I got that Golden Eagle silly-cheap. It's a great engine, I think. It might be hard to build around, but i don't think you're supposed to. It seems to function as armor and a gun mount at lower PS. I've never had one out in pvp above PS4000, though; Cannons. Very big cannons vs Naked builds. I'm not a boom-stick guy. Never done it. I should try it. It just feels dirty, like building a drone-boat.

This is what led me to make Small Tracks, and then Augers work.  It's a Build Challenege, and yes.  There is a combination of parts that makes them work.  (Not so much the specific parts, but how they're laid out.)  The same with Hovers, but there's already entire teams, dedicated to making those work.

Everyone that says that they suck just hasn't figured them out yet.

MVP and 1st place in easy raids? Yup. Sure did. I did not build this to win. I built it to play. I had fun, but I did not expect to win. It's a friggin' Sprinter, for cryin' out loud. These people aren't even trying. I sure wasn't. I mean, I was just playing. I didn't even hit the generators. Maybe, my coffee is stronger than I think. I do like the build. It's fun for raids.

Raids are fun. I don't care what they say.

Today I worked on a little Crossout crossover. When I run out of gas in the Wasteland, I just walk. This is my New Vegas hobby-mod. I've changed the sky, the radscoprions, installed my own canned radio station for the Pip-boy, reworked a custom Vaultsuit, set up a player home, reworked a shack out in the desert where I have a deer-stand for shooting those fancy radscorpions, and I've put some disco (I know) on holodisks for a quest I've yet to get into, I've improved the textures for eyes, ghouls, some armor, and a jumpsuit,  some water bottles, that hat Edgar's wearing there, and uh...oh, I made a custom refrigerator for my player home that dispenses clean water and Ramen Noodles (I call it the "ACME Aquamatic 2000"), and today I reworked the textures for a leather jacket outfit. I lifted the Lunatic logo from a guy here on the forum who built it for kicks and shared (Thanks, __Aro__). I finally found a use for those patches they give us, too...I'm gonna get sick of those and take them back off, I bet, maybe...IDK. I'm happy with the Jacket.

Where I am at the moment. These two have survived in my rotation for about a week. As long as I don't have any contact with Gaijin management I'm content(ish) to play. I really hate those people. A lot. I have a lot of hate to offer...but whatever. Here's a better offering...The Wyvern actually works, but the shadow game cancels that if I change the wheels to anything else. it's weird. I wanted it to be made entirely of Nomad parts, and outside of the wheels, it is. I really wish they gave a bonus to faction exclusive builds. I'm still working on my Drone-Slayer, and I've discovered a trick, but I've yet to get it right.  My want for wins almost leads me to build a drone carrier, but using aim-bots seems unprincipled. Back in the day, that was considered cheating, but whatever. I digress...too thinky, not enough dooey.

This one's a lot of fun. At a PS just under 2900 it's been tearing it up better than a lot of my builds. However, I find boring works best sometimes. I got a Trucker and just slapped a couple of auto-cannons on it and it does pretty good in pvp. I like this better, though. It's pretty, it's fast, it drifts, and it tears up fenders, and guns. It's not bad at getting under heavy hitters either, because the front has knives on the low-down for scooping'em off their tracks. It'll probably be in my rotation for a while, and I doubt it'll be my last trike.

I ran variations of this for most of the night, trying to get it to go. Eventually I made enough scrap to fuse that vector, and that helped a lot. I had some fun after that. Good team mates helped make it more fun too, win or loose. It makes a difference. I want to fuse the shot-gun underneath next, and then all three guns will be juiced. Initially I built it to do copper runs with a Huntsman cab, which did not survive well in PVP. The Bear did much better, but only after the Vector's fusion, and I brought the shot-gun forward a notch, too. The Khaki #3 is new, and my paint collection is looking strong again. I probably spend too much on paints, but I like'em.

My Vanilla garage...Because of the Gronch, and the developers who de-gronched my account, and the great big update right around the corner, I've been led to just start over with with my account at Crossout. Because it's hard for me to know what works and what doesn't (there are a lot of combinations), and that has been sort of a bummer grind to try and force my wants out of this game, I thought I would try to read what the game thinks I should do, or try to follow what the physics that this universe supports, as opposed to trying to make it do what I want, and building things that go against the grain.Vanilla seemed like the place to start, and it's been a hoot. The game is a lot of fun on this basic level, I think, and the wave of new players I expect Pewdiepie to lure in with that awful promo will probably enjoy it here. I think that's what the developers have in mind with this overhaul. I hope they're right. There's very little even remotely (maybe remotely) like this game out there, from what I've seen.

I just want to have fun (and that's what I'm doing) and I don't really care if I have fancy equipment, or a sci-fi monster machine, as much as I want a personal gaming experience. Fun is fun. I love that these creations are mine (mostly. That Docker does look like a com-bot. Ba$tard.), and I love it when they work. I'm a father and that's how a patriot is, I suppose. Mom's probably got some of that too.

Anyway, these are my children and I hope to see them grow up and eat plenty of spiders and hovers one day. I can hardly wait for the new update.
