Not neccessarily for CC as I use the same build with variations… But in general I take the items I want the most and add their pwoerscore together to see where it sits.
So adding the cabin, weapons, movement and maybe your most important equipment like a radar detector , rad/cooler or engine together and see where it lands first. See how much energy you need minimum and add up the generator if needed.
Once this is quickly done, you can see how much powerscore you’re left to play with. You can then choose to add more armour, or a better gen/cab and hardware. Once you’ve done it enough you’ll maturally know how much PS remaining will corrolate to what modules or armour HP you could get into the build.
Always leave 100-200 PS for either blue or epic ammo. Once you’re done you can always work out where you can save PS, like swapping out for lower rarity wheels, or dropping an engine for a hot red (or the new turbo engine).
You’re right about the PS limit making it better, for years I said that CW wasn’t competetive due to having no limits and being a whale-mode… I’m very happy that I dominate Uranium Wars and never had to eat my own words, it feels good.
That’s pretty much how I approach it too, and your feelings on these modes echoes mine (except I’m not as skilled).
How much PS do you like to reserve for armour?
Ideally I’d like to use about 1000PS for armour (ie. the skeleton coming to about 8000PS).
Beyond cooling/reloader, the only modules I typically run are an engine and a Maxwell. Occasionally run a cloak, but not often. Tormentors when playing melee.
Build the cheesiest metaslave build with the current flavor of the month better than anything else weapon that has not been nerfed yet, rinse and repeat
One thing I’ve realized is that the energy rework has made the special and rare modules relevant.
Two fused rare radiators will perform close to a single epic rad, and uses less PS. The special engines are finding some use in some of my builds too, and when I use a cloak in this mode it’s usually the special one. And I use Maxwell on every build that I can.
The Tons of HP portion is usually done via looking at the ratios of durability to weight and PS. There use to be a spread sheet for this though I’m not sure what happened to it post the deletion of the old forum. It might still exist somewhere and wouldn’t be a bad thing to add into the conversation if anyone has an idea of where it is.
Normally what I’ll do is after I have a build kind of nearing a finished state is look at the PS that I have and then I start swapping out blocks (structure parts) to see if I can gain any hp. Normally I can pick up a fair amount going through like this. The thing to keep in mind is not all blocks are made equal.
With CC builds I’m not quite as concerned about how they look but rather I go for functionality and drivability.
Then there is also a bit with where to mount explosive bits and how not to cripple your builds with them when the eventually go off that probably should be coved too. I’m not set up to really go through this portion right now but it’s an interesting bit as you can place them in ways to both damage melee enemy’s and or blow off from your own build with doing less damage to it.
I only have currently two builds I use for CC currently with an alt I set up for this really annoying reapercopter that shows up every now and then in PC’s CC. The alt just has the guns set up differently to shoot in the air, so I really don’t consider it a different build as it has all the same parts. The two I normally rely on is whirlwind and Fatman.
I wish we could sort and filter our storage in more ways. I would love to be able to filter out all the “does not take up storage space” so that I can find stuff to delete when I need to free up space.
And being able to combine “sort by power score” with “sort by durability” would be very useful.
Someone who does not play the mode can’t know what the specific combo is, but I am pretty sure it is out there just like any mode has it’s easy meta, like Raijin bricks, Draco bricks, insert any old meta from years ago. Digging through youtube videos of cc or playing the mode itself is too much work to prove to a random dude on the forums about a specific meta existing and what it specifically is, but I am sure absolutely anyone can find it out by themselves easily by looking at what is the most common thing that works that everyone and their mother uses.
Saying the best building tip for CC build building is to use(build) the overperforming token CC builds everyone uses that is/are way better than most builds is not derailing no matter how much it annoys you I dislike cc gamemode and the overall balance you see in absolutely every mode of the game.
Best building tip, build the flavor of the month instawin build, gain instawins. In fact I’d say whining about whining and calling it derailment is much more of a derailment of the topic of building tips for a specific gamemode than someone just saying “Use cheesy builds it’s what everyone uses”
Just because a single guy says something you do not agree with 100% you don’t need to devolve it into a spiral of trying to undermine that opinion to nullify it out of anyone ever being able to agree with it. That causes derailment. You’re literally trying to derail your own thread by trying to go “This poster who has an opposing opinion to mine is just whining about something he does not like rather than giving any real input” because at that point what do you expect to happen? It turns into a debate on who is right who is wrong who’s personal opinion is allowed and why this other opinion is not
Even if a negative one it is still a building tip, even if the person does not play the mode themselves they can still give out a building tip, even if it is not the kind of tip you specifically wanted to see. And by calling someone out on their opinion only prolongs what they could have already conveyed in a single post because now people are going on about if the opinion is right or wrong, in a thread about opinions. Instead of simply counting it as one of many opinions about something in a pile of opinions and moving along rather than trying to argue if this opinion is fine or not
Sorry about the rant I realize I could have just ignored and moved along myself, but only in extreme hindsight as per usual
That’s a lot of words to say that you have nothing useful to post in this thread, since you know nothing about the mode, because you don’t play it.
As someone who does play this mode, I’m being honest when I say “play the current meta” doesn’t actually tell us anything useful, as it’s not clear what the current meta is after the last big balance update.
If this were a month ago, I could tell you what the current meta is, but things are different now.
Today I got more CC MVPs than I ever have, and I was playing a new build that I have yet to see anyone else use in this mode. So chasing what others are doing currently is not the best strategy at all, as the new meta is in flux.
And yes, you are a whiny baby who apparently can’t handle competitive modes, and just wants to complain about your own failures, rather than contribute anything useful. But I guess you can’t contribute anything, since you have no knowledge or experience in this mode.
To be fair he did suggest looking at the other means of getting info i.e. look at youtube and see what others are playing. As much as it might not provide us with info it is a fair way to see some of what is being played without actually hanging out in the mode. Plus he did apologize at the end. I type more then I often post too. I think I delete about half if not more of what I start to reply to as it’s really just not worth the argument.
I know on PC there is at least one team of 3 in a clan that just plays brickish fatman builds. There’s a few other clan teams that have coordinated their builds into tasks, Fire, kapcans, and a shooter. There are a few laser teams. I wouldn’t say this is the norm though. Most of my matches are completely random and I often play with the people from the other team in the next match.
I mostly play random and I tend to see a lot of random players more so then those teams that I mention above. I can’t say that I’ve seen a meta in the mode though or I haven’t recognized it as being one. Now what I do often see is whatever is the current favored op weapon but it’s not generally at a complete build level. Generally you will see things that have proven to be effective but that’s generally true in any of the modes.
There generally isn’t an instawin build though outside of maybe reapercopter. Much of it is at the shallow whim of the team and if they play well together. No matter how Op a build is they generally will not survive being outnumbered if they are alone in their battle engagement. So a lot of the modal play is can you forcibly separate the team to take advantage of the number aspect or taking out the slower member that can’t keep the pace with the team. However even a slight advantage can be quickly turned around with the limited amount of players involved.
I know this wasn’t towards me but I can’t say I’m a very competitive player either but I enjoy the mode. If they switched it to best out of 3 like they did in clanwars I’d lose all interest in it really fast. What I like about the mode is it’s generally a fairly fast match that is really close in regards to PS values and there is zero bot interference.
I do kind of wish they would drop this idea of having it every other hour though. I always log in at the wrong time, the modes either off or just ending. That to me is really the worsted thing about it to me is that I can’t just play it when I want to.
Just trying to make the best conversational wise out of the disruption. There is plenty of stuff that could be looked at that would help with CC like what is good positioning on each map. Which areas on the map are more defendable if your driven back by an aggressive opponent. There’s been a few matches that I’ve won just from a dead teammate saying your at a deadlock position wise just charge them to break the deadlock.
I actually was not very keen on getting involved in the mode till @Nobler1500 handed me an odd 3 legged walker build that was kind of interesting. I still use a variant of what he gave me but I think I’ve rebuilt it 20 times to get it to where I like it as my own. I have a second variant of this to deal with an annoying rotocopter player with the whirlwinds mounted on the side so I can shoot up. Outside of that I have a small 6 wheeled dual fatman build that I originally stole from exhibition and then altered as it was lacking radios and was too high in PS so I had to do min out the parts. I know there are some better builds for the dual fatman but it works and I haven’t wanted to invest the time in fixing up it’s little quirks yet. I’ve had a number of builds I’ve tossed away too as much as they could compete there were often smaller counters too them via the nerfs on weapons which made it hard to build around in the limited PS range.
I’m not very competitive either, but enjoy the challenge of the mode.
And maybe I was too harsh to that guy, but it really just seemed to me he wanted attention more than he wanted to contribute to the conversation. So I gave him the attention he wanted.
I mean, the topic is basically “tips on making effective CC builds”, and his answer is “use an effective CC build”. And then admits he doesn’t know what an effective CC build currently is.
It wasn’t an attempt to participate in the conversation; it was just him trying to derail the topic and maybe get some validation for feeling sad/angry about the game. I’ve really reached my threshold for that kind of internet persona.
