Planned balance changes from the “steel championship” update

I like my 6 trombone build and im not ready to give it up so im upgrading my upgrades to counter the planned nerf. I need some advice from anyone that knows anything about crossout weps.

Nerf is said to be
-15% to heating
-25% to explosion radius

Upgrade in the middle slot lets u try for
+25% to heating
+15% to explosion radius

Which upgrade of the 2 presented would you choose as being more effective in aiding the trombone weapon overall. Upgrades are cheap for this right now so im trying to get this done soon. Thnx.

Radius for sure. Even nerfed heating is still 100% heat, and more than one trombone for sure will get it heated up max. The more radius - more parts heated, more useful application of the weapon. Especially on big size crafts.

Thnx that does seem to make more sense now you say it.

As description on aurora says, heated parts receive up to 100% more damage. So it doesn’t go beyond cap I believe.
I don’t exactly understand what they mean to achieve by nerfing 45% heat of single rocket to 30%. When they hit craft all three of them(which they do most times) they still heat up not 100% but 90%… Only makes difference if you shoot down one or too.
Also a word of advice, trombone is extremely useful tool to help your team. Especially if you hit those that can or will be attacked. But it doesn’t seem it makes much difference if someone get hit by 3 or 13 rockets. So try sending them all to different players. Ideally using all 5 keybinds to send heat to 5 players at once. Or even 6 - one unbinded can be activated by “activate all button”. (if you not doing all that already)
Also - it is extremely effective to mix trombone with other guided rockets. By my experience… sometimes when you understand that the guy launching rockets sends heating ones, a player might just choose to ignore them if he is not attacked, cause heating ones don’t do much damage and guys rarely mix them… but suddenly they happen to really bite hard because some of them happened to be more than heating :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Thnx for the advice. I will try the separate keybinds you suggest. I have all bound to one right now. Looks cool seeing 18 trombones flying around tracking a person and occasionaly destroying a build.
I tried to use a Nest with the build but i suck at nesting and i had to get a lot closer and became dead more. I might try some other rockets though.

Nests are trash. They should at least remove that annoying time to capture target and make the oneclick instalaunch like all other guided rockets are. Them being shootable attach projectiles is enough balance as it is. As MG guy I love to help out allies by shooting stuff like that from their crafts. It’s like flipping allies, makes so much more feeling that allies can help you out and not just compete at killing.

Yeah. met guys like that. That’s entirely inefficient. It’s very easy to shoot them, and attacking one guy at a time… that manages to escape them or shoot them… not cool. Having upto 6 players heatup… repeatably… sounds like that could make trombone only builds actually effective.
Getting actual damage from trombones and killing with them? 8 trombones give ~180 damage. Even 1 trombone and 1 pyre gives more.
Also don’t forget Harpy cab has +20% blast radius bonus.

Don’t forget you have to time launches right so that damaging rockets hit after heating ones.

Hoping the Varun buff, especially lengthening the time it takes before you loose your shooting streak, makes them a bit more viable when playing with a wonky internet connection. Nice gun, but when it only works good when your internet works at it’s upmost performance (which is close to never) you really don’t get to play them as much as you would want to

Astreus could be good, time will tell, but does not look like it’s a buff that makes a huge impact on anything

Damage increase and hp boost on the Median is much needed, currently even if you snipe at enemies you generally don’t manage to strip away anything and then someone sneezes in the direction of your guns and they fall off

Mandrake buff sounds awesome, especially the change with the fire puddles

They should probably buff their servers rather than Varun. Varun’s already top tier without lag/packets loss.

I unironically think they shoul “buff” the damage for the tronbones if they are goin to really run the blast radius into the ground…

The only thing they are going to be hitting is cabins after this update…

I would have liked to see some mention of co-drivers, too. RN there’s Grizzly and Falcon and that’s about it. Some simple changes, like removing Billie’s perk downsides would help to increase the variety of co-drivers.

I do agree that trombones have not been overperforming, but they kind of killed Aurora.
Remedy dogs are a shame, but trombones are reasonable - still, more diversity in heating would be nice.
Miller-Aurora for example seems to be arising lately.

It would also make the Trombone boat players happy, since even a small damage buff would work neatly with 18 rockets volley at 100% heat.

I got all my 6 trombones upgraded to the +15% radius bonus now.

I am having much more fun with the separate keybinds on each one. Having rockets go off in 4 or 5 target directions close together is cool. I do a lot more crazy mouse clicking now though.

Im running this new build for me. Pretty good results. Its a Harpy/4 Trombone/King/Cheetah/KA-2 Flywheel/Averter build. Just over 8k PS.

Fast movement, fast reload and lots of ammo. 4 trombones for team support and a king for defence mostly. I like it.

I upgraded my battlepass Trombone this weekend. I went for +rocket turn speed and can’t say enough about it. Hovers can’t shake it, Dogs can’t close on it. I used a stabilizer to keep the + explosion radius.

My Reaper spider is hugely improved.

Yeah i was having a bit of a time deciding exactly what bonus to keep of the 3 slots and then figuring out how to match them all without going broke.

Luckily i already had most of the stats i wanted so it didn’t cost me much at all with the stabilizers helping.

I went with durability/ explosion radius/ projectile speed. I was debating on going for turn speed but kept with projectile speed since i already had most that way already and it really helps with getting the rockets across the map before they time out in flight. The long distances really helps the trombone with accuracy… according to the info given and i play from afar with this build mostly so the Keen radar lets me pick up those enemies at a greater distance with no energy cost.

I agree. I’ve used both with and without and I had more fun without blight. But I guess it’s just personal preference.
