i think they made them for sale so they slowly gone get consumed by the playerbase. for need them in crafting recipe.
Because you cant earn them anymore so it slowly gone be deleted from the game i think. new players wont have much acces to these resources called casings.
Sadly im stil sitting on 14.5K of these casings i slowly collected and had no use for.

But yes the cassings i dont know i might just keep em because the market value of them is to low to sell them for anything reasonbale in my opinion + they gone become a dinosaur item its gone get slowly removed eventully i think.
i’m doin the same,i was going to sell them at 23.00coin then i seen them drop to 1 coin,i’ll hold on to them till they get deleted…no worries
