Every day I mourn for Targem cuz they fell for the lies of redditors

and everyone living outside EU/NA/RU server regions.

Reddit is dying, Soj.ooo is rising.

Why not just bump your other thread?

Or is spamming the plan?

why are you so obsessed with hitscan? why is it needed in crossout? is it because it was usable with bad internet?

Somebody should tell OP that you can use a Fin Whale, “cascade” your guns, AND still call out hitscan as a bad mechanic for Crossout.

And do it on the forum too

you can, but it will be just as effective as taping a shotgun to a shovel to dig more efficiently

I can safely say after playing for a bit.

I hate to agree with this but I do. the hitscan was removed to make copters less OP when using MGS vs other weapons.

As much as reddit and here thinks it is because of people with bad builds, they barely factored into it. IT is do to the “need” to push the copter mode more.

Problem is pushing the copter mode more would be made much, much better by giving us special and epic tier AA that actually freaking works.

The only dedicated AA is a legendary and it sucks at its job as AA.

You know, russian-speaking players sometimes call helis as “unskillcopter”. Why?

Because usually the most top-scoring / annoying builds are something that requires SO LITTLE brainpower in comparsion to something else. Like, hurricane / pyre, caucasus, spark, starfall or any sort of flying drone. Blockchain and quasar also go in this category because they can literally kill helis in one shot which isn’t even remotely fair.
So, no. Hitscan wasn’t an issue on helis. Even if it was - joule or whirlwind are MUCH MORE annoying on helis (speaking as someone who constantly plays arcade only on whirlwinds).

It will be a band-aid balancing fix.
Let’s just dissect the gameplay loop when you’re facing a heli as literally any other thing except helis (because mirror picks are a band-aid counterpick).

I’ve hidden the in-depth explainations under spoiler tags, so if you’re interested you can check it out. But i’ve also left the TL,DR version.

There are exactly 167 weapons in crossout as for now. 75 of them either can’t target helis at all, or their downtime is so incredibly long that you’ll deal more damage by throwing rocks at the helis. We end up with 92.

1. Helis fly, and usually far away.

Kapkan, skinner, enlightement, flock and barrier are basically a non-weapon weapons and they have to go, trombone barely deals any damage, so it’s 161 weapons left. 4 of them are basic rarity so it’s 157.

You can’t deal any meaningful damage on a 75+ meters range? Womp womp.

  • Shotguns, melee weapons, plus flamethrowers, spark, flash, aurora and skadi, can’t, all 35 of them

122 left.

  • Some weapons are grounded (king, dove, porc, TOW clarinet, punji, fuze)

we remove 6 more weapons to get 116.

Let’s also remove more weapons that technically CAN get a hit on heli but it’s unpractical to do so:

  • fortune, doom, vulture, yaoguai, jubokko, inci, mandrake, acari, yokai, yongwang, swarm, heather, jotun, flute and imugi.

I mean, you CAN hit helis at pretty long distances, but it’s either insanely unpractical or borderline impossible. Remove 15 more weapons, end up with 101.

  • All drones are hella unreliable (if we don’t count heli vs heli scenarios)

so we remove 9 more drones from the list (annihilator has SOME potential so it stays), so now 92 weapons are left.

Another 30 weapons can deal meaningful damage to helis, but not often enough to reliably shoot them down, we end up with 62.

2. They are super maneurable.

Which means that they can just dodge your projectiles if they’re too slow or if there’s, like, 2 of 3 of them.

  • All 13 cannons that we haven’t removed yet (except median and nagual), helicon, wasp, pyralid, locust, waltz and snowfall, slaughterer, impulse, quasar, pulsar, phoenix, spike and commit, elephant and narwhal, ripper and emily.

Their projectiles are either slow or there isn’t enough of them. -30, 62 are left.

Now, these two reasons already literally took almost 100 weapons from the list. I’m getting tired of all this researching so TL, DR even more.

They can FLY RIGHT ABOVE YOU so some of the weapons can’t even get a good shot at them, which makes your downtime even longer. And even if YOU DO SOMEHOW manage to get a shot at them, don’t forget that they do tank as much as any regular build.

So basically helis are OP and you can’t do anything about them unless they face some heavy nerfs.
IRL helis are a support vehicle, that has basically 0 armour and can be brought down with relatively little force. So what we gonna do?
Either:

  1. Innate x2 or x3 damage vulnerability for ALL parts on helis
  2. Your max tonnage is capped to max tonnage of your rotors. You can’t boost it by engines or cabs.

Helis SHOULD BE a light support role vehicle. They shouldn’t be a flying invincible orbital cannon that’s annoying af to fight with

that’s the biggest reason. with 10th anniversary approaching, it’s clear as day that targem has neither the resource nor intention to ever improve the server quality, hence making the “just push for server support” argument of redditors fell apart: if they wanted to do it, they would’ve done it 5 years ago.

and you don’t run a balance change that EXCEEDS the capability of the game server, it’s like trying to run an advanced software on a potato laptop, it’s guaranteed to not work well, if not straight up burn the motherboard alive.

Hit-scan is a mechanism that existed since the launch of the game, and it has been running just fine for the most fundamental weapon group that’s designed as tracing strippers to begin with.

It’s also well known that players that doesn’t connect to their local region servers are experiencing severe latency and packet loss, let alone rest of those who live outside the remaining 3 active servers.

Why not just bump your other thread?
Or is spamming the plan?

As for this question, yes and no: I did not use my chance to address this stupid idea back then, assuming the devs and rest of the redditors were smart enough to see how stupid this take were. I was utterly wrong. If I knew how bad shotguns and Corvo got trashed after having their hitscan took away, I would’ve yapped much harder back then.

At this point, better late than never, and I’ve decided to make loads of different memes so that the point is addressed and brought across in a easy to understand manner, with a relatively light-hearted humor.

Is it just PC players experiencing severe lag since the hitscan change?
I haven’t experienced much on PS4.

And is it all PC players suffering, or only some?

How sure are we that the problem is the game servers, and not something specific to the setups of the individual players?

I don’t really know how servers work for games like this, and what the difference is between how it’s handled on consoles vs PC.

from the limited time playing recently i didnt notice any abnormal lag
