Fire and Ice brawl

How are you all feeling about it? I don’t find it offensively bad like some of the brawls cough wheels of fortune cough any brawl sing side dash mechanics cough but I am not a huge fan of it either, while I won’t call it a bad brawl but it’s not a favorite either

For one the ice builds seem weaker compared to the fire builds that got Mastodons, Firebugs etc, while the ice builds have Skadis and Narwhals. Also I really hate how they have to force the helis and mech legs into every mode because they had to force them into the game. Especially the helis are a bit more annoying than usual due to no real good heli counter builds outside mech leg cannon builds, and trying to hunt any helis on those is tedious at best. Honestly if they’d have made this mode ground only and completely abandoned helis from it, it might have been way more fun.

I really wish we could move past the helis already, you added it to the game, have been shoving them down everyones throat, and now you have a new movement part (legs) that work way better with normal ground builds, the helis feel out of place and always seem to either be a problem or need a specific counter, costing -1 overall build from any choose-a-build brawl.

Helis do not mix well with the other stuff and need way too specific countering outside the reach of “normal” builds

I think the Ice & Fire thing is pretty easy, but yes, the fire vehicles do more damage quicker than the ice ones. Ditto about the mech legs and copters in the mode…they shouldn’t be in there, because they aren’t spread out evenly. One battle had my team with 4 wheels and 1 mech legs, the other team had 2 wheels, 1 walker, 2 copters. How it that fair.

And I did like the wheels of fortune event, very easy and didn’t take forever to complete. (Could do without the dash things). I even bought a fortune afterwards to mount into one of my novelty builds…will probably get 1 or 2 more (after I can get more bp slots).

Ew. I know the devs don’t care about balance much but holy hell, that’s rough (haven’t tried the brawl yet)

Any event is better than the Steel Championship or Ice Hockey.

Pretty sure the ice side is actually much better than the fire side. Lets check every vehicle:

Beholder Incin x2 on Buggy Wheels
vs
Kami Elephant x2 on Small Tracks
Easy one, the fire vehicle is laughably bad. No reverse speed; Beholder and Finwhale are borderline useless on an Incin build; not great for long range, not great for close range, not great vs legs, can’t hit copters. On the other hand, Elephants tickle, but they freeze targets for your Narwhals, are easy to use, have great range and can bully copters; Kami is useful if you time it right before eating a Mast shot or need to stay in a fire puddle.

Howl Firebug x3 on Shivs
vs
Ghost Skaldi x3 on Shivs
The fire wheeled flamer deals insane damage, but once again, Howl and Oppressor provide next to no bonuses. It’s also one of the most explosive piñatas in the brawl. The ice “flamer” deals a bit less damage, but it has something like 10 times the range of Firebugs and reduces your target’s damage for the whole team. Ghost and Finwhale provide appreciable bonuses. It also seems a lot less explosive. In both cases, the Shivs are totally pointless when 80% of your opponents are tracked, have legs, or fly; and they are way too weak to tank a couple cannon shots.

Ghost Incinerator x2 copter
vs
Omnibox Jotun x2 copter
Puddle weapons deal pathetic damage against legged enemies (they’re mostly above the damage effect, when they don’t just jump out of it), and obviously can’t deal with copters. Out of those, Jotun at least has the good taste of slowing down flamers, reducing legs’ resists, and buffing your Narwhals massively.

BWC Warrior Mastodon x2 on legs
vs
BWC Warrior Narwhal x2 on legs
The one where there’s a debate IMO. Mastodons deal great damage. They also have worse traverse speed, worse projectile speed, and a wonky handling compared to Narwhals. Narwhals deal brutal damage on frozen targets and handle copters way better than Mastodons. 1v1, the fire walker probably has an edge. In coordinated teams, the Narwhal wins for me, no doubt.

Griffon Firebug x2 on legs
vs
Beholder Skaldi x2 on legs
Don’t pick the fire one, please. Just don’t. Melee range, no cloak, slow, it’s just not good. At least the ice one has decent range and the Beholder cloak.

As far as I can tell, every ice vehicle is better than its direct counterpart except maybe the mastodon/Narwhal pair, and the ice team has much more range, anti-air, support options and build+team synergy than the fire one does. Ice has 4 legit vehicles (don’t pick copters), while fire has… huh… 1.5, and that 1 vehicle is clunky af to use so may the Wasteland gods help you if it’s instalocked by teammates who won’t make the most out of it.

Best Way to Win…

I don’t like the mixed vehicles in any of the brawl events when they are presets.
I would prefer brawls that are all wheels or all legs or all heli’s.
I love the plastic reward.

Edit: Not that I am playing this week. Playing something else that had a recent early access.

The fire vs ice vehicles may not be the most balanced, but it’s countered by the fact that the missions are easy, win or lose; “play 3 times”, “get 5000 points damage”, whatever. If the misions said you had to “win 3 times”, I might be talking a different story. Either way, I have about a 50% win rate, which is probably what the developers intended.

Didn’t take me long to get tired of maps covered in fire and ice. I don’t care what the rewards are. I’m done with that. I didn’t think it was fun or rewarding. Twice was more than enough. I doubt I’ll even consider the next brawl.

If I have to play PVP on maps that are constantly engulfed in flames and ice, I won’t be doing that either.

Speaking of ice maps, I’m hoping they bring back that “Gronch” event they had 2 or 3 years ago. Had beautiful scenery, and was fun too.

I like it. I found reasonably efficient builds on both sides and playing a few games does not seem like a chore but a fun alternative (something I can’t say of all brawls).
I don’t find the teams blatantly imbalanced despite the different weapons.
I feel that people tend to overestimate the usefulness of helis in this mode though. Both only have puddles weapons which are nice support but don’t do that much damages. Playing more helis than the other team often will result in a loss because that mean less direct damage. On land I love the elephant build. It has a kami which mean heat immunity for 4 seconds when needed and has full reverse speed due to its tracks meaning you can easily kite flamers at the cost of having a lower DPS and low survivability if caught. The leg builds on both sides are interesting and I must admit that legs grow on me and I added a leg build in my garage .
