How could helicopters work in a normal game mode?

I think I answered it pretty straight forward.

The solution is simple. You don’t need to rebalance any weapons, ban weapons or modules or any of that. Just make it a rotating brawl like they do so many other brawls. I mean, there’s already a melee only brawl, leviathan brawl etc. Add a Helicopter brawl. Done and done.

You’re catching a lot of flak because the lazy whining players who don’t want to learn anything new, don’t want to adapt to new game play and are stuck mashing W don’t want anything to with helicopters.

He’s specified normal game mode. Brawls aren’t exactly normal game modes. I’m pretty sure he means raids, patrol, or missions…

General reply:

It lacks a number of the charms the regular game play has in terms of vehicle performance and the influence of parts. Flight characteristics between builds are for the most part unchanging. Even basic weight balancing doesn’t effect flight characteristics. There are a number of weapons that hardly function when away from the ground. There are a number of weapons that can not shoot into the air either. Many of these are fairly obvious as the game was developed for ground to ground combat rather than ground to air or air to ground.

Just some of the gross inefficiencies: Turrets, Wheel drones, Drone Launchers, Mine layers and launchers, Shotguns, Fire, Melee, Cannons, Artillery to name a few. Beyond that there are some that are conditional as in they will work against air only if they are also in the air… Not all of these will have simple fixes or be able to be fixed. I’d rather not see them outright ban or restrict items from modes either. Restricting some parts being mounted on some vehicles is a bad idea too. They would have to do a lot more testing then a 40 day brawl to work out all the kinks and issues for it to be able to worked into normal modes of the game. it also has to be able to satisfy the daily and weekly challenges beyond simple brawls.

The other issue is in a normal match you have to deal with all the players that have yet to get to a point were they can obtain the propeller item. If someone does a min build and takes it into lower PS scores it’s going to cause issues unlike any type of seal clubbing we’ve previously seen. That isn’t healthy for the game in itself.

This isn’t complaining though I’m enjoying dive bombing people with crickets and I’m not even using a cloak to deal with guided missile spam. If it wasn’t for the high wire reward and the crate I probably wouldn’t bother with the mode, as it is right now it feels unfinished/refined.

They would need a cooldown so ground vehicles and close combat builds could have a chance, so X amount of flying and then X amount of time until you can fly again, forcing flying players to have to land at least once or twice per match rather than staying up in the air for all eternity

The brawls seem to be lasting around 5 minutes for that length of time you probably could get away with a cool down. For a faster game modes however I don’t think a cool down would really work as currently there is already a switch over time between air/ground too. That would end up eating a lot of match time up.

This.
It probably needs it’s own mode, and trying to work it into regular PVP might not be practical. The brawl is fine how they have it, I think. They could add more maps, and refine a few issues, like map size and ceiling, I’d like some flares for all the missiles, and maybe flight-control could use some tuning up too, but I see no need to create an issue by installing them into the current PVP (missions) arrangement.

Splitting the player population is the only issue I see with simply giving them their own brawl or game-mode. Does this game have enough players to segregate them into flying and non-flying lobbies? Do they really need to be integrated into current PVP, missions, and clan wars? IDK. I don’t think so, but I would like to see them have a permanent presence in the game.

I think we get it, it’s just that it’s more practical to create a separate mode for flight, like a brawl, which is why they did it this way, I’m sure, than to bust out the nerf hammer and start destroying everybody’s gear, or create feature-restrictions, or whatever, just to forge a farcical arrangement of equality between cars and helicopters.

In my view, the most practical way to create a competitive game that involves both land and air vehicles, is to change the mission objectives, which is what they’ve done with this brawl. War Thunder also has a format that combines both, and works. Use that arrangement.

Maybe shaving off the corners of a block to jam it into the peg-hole isn’t a good idea in the first place.

thankyou for the reply you are the first person to take the baby steps towards the thing i am directly asking for haha you have identified some specific problems with the helicopter blades so thankyou for that
do you have any solutions to these problems that you as a player, would be happy with?

yeah having limited flight time would really help mile and ground based vehicles, give them a chance to skinner them perhaps

it would not eat up match time because players can put wheels on their vehicle to drive around like normal while their propellers are inactive, think of the helicopter as more of a brief high slow long range jump that is used alongside your normal movement parts

again all you are saying is the same stuff with new words, doc i know your opinion, i know you want it to be a brawl only mode, i know a brawl only mode is the easy way out, i don’t care, I’m not asking for the easy way out
I’m asking for specific problems with the helicopter
“ground vehicle cant shoot it”
then I’m asking for solutions
" add module to let ground vehicle shoot it"
this is what I’m after, hell you don’t have to right a sentence just right a problem and wright a solution you would be happy with, problems then if you have a solution, a solution to the problem you would be happy with, if you want an example of what i am looking for, just look at my original post

No thanks.
I don’t need anymore problems.

I’ve actually tried dropping out of the sky while turning it off it doesn’t work that well. Some of my normal matches a minute is 1/3 of the time as the entire match only lasts around 47 seconds.

I understand what kind of conversation you want but it’s probably not going to happen. It’s not baby steps it’s that the tenor and tonality of the forum is normally to toxic to have that level of conversation without it going sour.

Easiest example: to fulfill a shot gun daily without players being over stressed they will probably have to relocate the 2 nailguns (summator and argument) into the shotgun family, on top of that could fix the Arothron as a always charged parser that fires a grapeshot round like it was intended when suggested on the old forum. However these weapons are not all easily available if players skipped any BP’s which also places new players at a disadvantage. They really need to add the weapon blueprints to the badge exchange to square things up.

It’s easy to say some of these type of fixes might work but unless they are willing to do the testing it’s not going to work. It needs to be tested out properly before going into normal game play. This means stuff like well why can’t fuze drones just alternatively get deployed with propellers while in air might have to get skipped. Can’t we just attach little parachutes to wheel drones, that’s dumb but might work too. The stuff needs to be tested correctly so it doesn’t wreck the game in the slightly balanced state it is.

I really would like to see legendary wheels and tracks and stuff too. This heli thing feels like a complete dead stop saying what else could players want as they said in their intro to it. Let relics be the last bit in the game that’s fine I’d like to see what a full legendary vehicle looks like.
