Is it just me or are bots far more aggressive?

ive literally spent the last week being relentlessly harassed by bots in patrol vs ai…
its not even 1 bot though, its literally half the team or more. at one time i was getting targeted by any bot that that had cannons, i peek my head out and any bot with a cannon on it targeted me instantly. even when i had the rest of my team mates out in the open they instantly targeted me.
but thats not all. bots would literally stalk me and constantly harass me till they died, especially the autocannon builds like stillwind and especially the cyclones.
heck i seen my team mate was getting attacked by a bot with the shotguns (jorts) and the instant i came within sight of it, it INSTANTLY stopped attacking my team mate and came directly after me. my team mate was closer to it but it just ignored him like he wasnt there and came directly for me.
no seriously… what the hell did i do to deserve this?
im not joking here when i say i am getting targeted by multiple bots unfairly. i have no idea why they are hard focusing on me like this but its getting really frustrating being ganged up on by an entire enemy team for no real reason. and im talking my entire team is alive and I am the only one getting hard focused on by these bots. heck i even seen bots completely bypass my team mates and make a B line straight for me.
i understand that bots can target you, but to be so hard focused on by them like that is just ridiculous to me.

I’ve noticed similar behavior sometimes. It really feels like the AI has some kind of priority system that can make it seem like certain players are being singled out. It could be based on threat level, damage output, positioning, visibility, or the type of build you’re running rather than random targeting. Still, when multiple bots completely ignore closer teammates and tunnel one player across the map, it feels frustrating and unfair. Hopefully the devs can look into the targeting logic and make it feel more consistent. A little pressure from the AI is fun, but being permanently hunted by half the enemy team can ruin the experience.

Happens to me as well, even getting shot out of cloak by one so the other three can target me again. My turrets can usually distract them if I can break line of sight or cloak. Because of my playstyle, I must get close to the bots and deploy my weapons. Because my allies are copters or snipers and hide for 60 seconds or the whole battle, I am their only target most battles, especially encounters. Sometimes a copter can lure the bots, causing them to separate, aiding me in singling out one target and not four, but that is rare. First one spotted, first one targeted.
I do find if you run away fast enough, they get bored and target someone else.

i find drones hard to run because bots instantly target them, giving them no chance to do damage or contribute to the team. its sad really because drones can be a good thing to use but… to see them instantly deleted as soon as they hit the ground is just frustrating and depressing.
im saying this as someone who used to run drones, they just arent usable… at least to me.

yeah and often times they can be absolute jerks to. ive had more then one occasion where im sniping an enemy and some idiot in a heli lures an enemy right to me forcing me to take damage and sometimes making me take heavy damage.

half the time they outrun me, i can never get away from them so im forced to fight them. if i have tracks i can back up fast enough and shoot them enough to strip their guns but alot of the time they can outspeed me. even on my fastest tracks.

For the people who think they are being unfairly targeted by bots: do any of you have theories about why you specifically are being targeted instead of your teammates?

I’m not completely sure how bot AI works. Seems like line of sight is the big thing, as most of the time I can avoid being focussed on if I allow a teammate to be my meat shield. But sometimes that doesn’t work. I think maybe there’s different AI programming for different weapons, or maybe the range of a weapon determines how they behave.

I know one thing (dunno if it’s true now, but it was true, like, 4 years ago).

Bots have targeting priorities. I remember playing on a invis TOW+Skinner build (basically get up someone where people can’t spot me and fire rockets). I got on a spot where i couldn’t be targeted from the ground, and all 4 enemy bots just came to my position despite me being in the invis before i got to that position.

well if you search bots, they have upgraded them to target your weps n not just cabs anymore, they made them smarter to avoid things like fire puddle,
ur right on line of sight- but even if u hide they still chase u around because ur their first and they like you…
i want the dumb bots back, these bots are way to much of instant killers now,
they need to nerf them

When I play Patrol, my MVP rate goes way up, so there must be something I’m doing to not attract undue attention from the bots.
But I barely even think about what I’m doing in Patrol, so I have no idea what I’m doing right.

I find bots way too easy most of the time. I once had a player yell at me in chat because I focused on the bots in a Next Step match, but for me that’s the easiest way to win those matches.

noooo idea.
even for flying bots im targeted alot assuming there isnt another heli, then they get heavily focused.
i think the priority goes heli, drones / mines / kapkans, ground units.
if i use naguals im focused, if i use mgs im focused, if i use crossbows im focused, if i use cannons im focued… literally anything i use im focused hard by bots.
so really i have no idea why im so hard focused by bots. heck a match i was just playing i was being focused hard by cannon bots…
i really dont know, maybe its my hp that makes me a priority? its the only thing i can think of. but even then most of my builds run at around 1500 - 2000 hp around in there at 14k - 18k ps. but even then theres times to when bots dont focus me so hard as well or just ignore me completely.

can confirm this. ive had one to many weapons being shot at by bots purposefully aiming for my weapons.

are you offering them some of your secret stash of whiskey? cause even id look the other way if that was the case :joy:

It’s not HP, my best guess that there’s an internal MMR that enforces lots of things including bot aggro.

Any chance it might be your playstyle? I find that if I’m being really aggressive and lead the charge, I’m dead. I have the least problems with being targeted if I let my team’s bots lead the rush. But it’s situational; if I’m flying an incinerator copter, I have to get out there and light them up, but if using a rocket copter, I can hang back some and shoot from a distance. That allows me to see cannon bots shooting at me and give me time to swerve. Also, if you use an invisibility module, the best thing to do is turn fast after activating it; if you continue flying in a straight line, the bots predict your flight path for a coupla seconds and can still nail you.

being a pro inc vet,i recommend hanging back until ur team engages then help them, you dont want Support to die first…ur welcome

Bots usually target the first person they have a direct LOS (line of sight with). But as i’ve stated before, there seems some sort of internal MMR which also has a play on bot aggro.

If you’re skilled enough and you’re rocking a good build, it’s really common to see how bots, focused on shooting another teammate of yours, will retarget you the instant you get into their LOS.

Especially after you had some bullshit matches like this one

Do your builds tend to be tall by any chance?

I’m not convinced of this. I’ve done some experimenting when farming in Patrol to see if I could kick in anything resembling this, and I’ve been unable to.

I don’t see any difference in their behaviour between when I’m playing an optimized build and getting 50% MVPs or when I’m messing around with some art build and barely scoring 40, even after many matches at either of those extremes.

Playstyle seems to have the biggest effect. I think it’s possible height might make a difference, as my mechs and flying builds seem to attract more bot aggro than my small little low to the ground cars. I think there’s a chance that they may prioritize humans over other bots, but not sure.

And i’ve seen this plenty of times. Coincidentally, i get hurled alot in teams that, quite literally would lose even against a bunch of small boys.

Here’s your first mistake as AI is different in here. Especially because of helicopters.

Your MMR wouldn’t change instantly? There seems to be an overall median MMR so even if your recent plays are dogshit, you still will get matched unfavourably (to a certain degree as losestreaks do break after, like, 6-12 plays) because of your past MVPs.

Also keep in mind - there’s a saying, someting something “think of the average idiot and then remember that 50% of the idiots are even dumber”.
Meaning even if you think you’re not that good of a player… think again lmao

For me, something that’s in Show us your builds would be an example of a bad player (mostly because i’m in, like, top 0.xx% of players).

But in reality, the guys that post in here are in… i guess top 10-33% of players? They are bad compared to what i’m using to seeing, but they are, in fact, better than the average Crossout player.

Because the average / below average Crossout player looks like this.

Alphaz_Wolfen or fuzzthehamster might make cringe builds by my standarts, but they are still MILES better than the average crossout player. At the very least these guys know how to somewhat synergize and somewhat cover the weak spots of their builds.

I would say, they definitely have an increased tracking ability.

A lot of the time when I tried to break their line of sight to de-aggreggo, they will chase me down for the entire map until someone else attack them.

They also started to leave from puddles (flame, cyro, squall) when previously they would’ve sit tight.

However, somehow their regular driving and shooting is still ass. But hey, if Targem wants to justify reverting the old matchmaking (which flattens PS slope to <1000 PS lobby, and no bot mirroring) by making ai bots actually threatening, that’s somewhere to start.

I don’t, at least until now
some bots are pretty easy, i’m talking about bots with splash damage, spiders cannons e.g.
if you hug them and push a bit they simply don’t fire and as i use hawks ( they shoot downwards, with wheeled drones might be more difficult if the player’s build is in the way )
the push may be tricky it must be just the enough amount, sometimes, i just have to lean against them otherwise if i push too much the bot will be push easily and things can go side tracked and he can turn around and shoot.
the track mechanic cab with big cannons it’s more difficult doing that, it’s meaty , it has the weapons in different plains, the safest angle to do will be at the back, you will not push or pin it down it but as long you hug them he will not shoot the single weapon that has angles to hit you but as he’s not immobilize it can be a matter of time until he shoots with either gun or with both.
Against other players this also works ( thresher builds e.g. ) if the player shoots i will lose my drones but he’s gonna pay a prize and as i play next step it’s just a matter of time until i get him if i don’t on the first try, in these particular cases the drones are just a distraction just like a hologram, the real weapon it’s the build itself and as there’s a lot of copy / paste going around or lack of cool blood, guess who is the last one standing ? in most of the times
It’s like having a relic gen as i use the other guy weapon to inflict damage.
This don’t work all of the times but if you can spot with what guys this will not work, it’s run away to fight another day

You may be flattered to be on the list. It’s like in the movie Terminator, if you go against the system, like criticizing the game too much or giving dislikes, you become an enemy of the developers and get put on the target list. But we will not give up, we will fight for better conditions and a better game for the players.
