Long story short, I love the vibe of having a big, relatively impervious frontal shield in my vehicle (very good for the knightly vibes, too), but I find myself with no Legendary option for this specific flavor other than the Nova cabin, which I do also find very interesting… but is a medium cabin and thus not a heavy one.
So yeah, I’d love it if there were a heavy legendary option with some sort of prominent frontal protection, passive or active, or both.
Granted, I know next to nothing about game balance, metas and the like, so I don’t know if this would be healthy for the game, and for that reason I would like to hear your thoughts on the matter!
I think there could be a place for something like that, and I would prefer the Bastion format than the Nova approach.
If you are impatient, Cohort’s perk can give you a lot of temporary durability. I know it’s not the same, but does allow for similar gameplay as Nova.
Agree with OP. HVY legendary cabins have temporary drones buffs, why not shield or other nice functionality… Both light and hvy have repair cabins, HVY not. Why not balanced repair perk for HVY?
About balance it all matter about parameters they will give for a shield or whatever for new HVY cabin.
Light or Medium cabins have so many different functionalities, but HVY cabins have same thing, just different stat. And Machinist not even worth to mention here.
the nova is broken in clan wars and is one of the most used cabins there… at least back when i ran clan wars. it was absolutely annoying dealing with them especially on a scorpion / cannon build.
the bastion in and of itself shouldnt really be a epic cabin, its really strong as is and was stupidly popular back then. hell when the cabin was limited it costed up to 5000 coins for just one. they never released the bastion cabin as a blueprint before and the price rose up to 5k coins per cabin. i remember my clanmates wanting to get one but i told them to wait and luckily they did.
as soon as the bastion hit the workbench with a permanent blueprint the price just took a nose dive faster then a warthunder player suiciding in a plane.
imo i dont think it would be a good idea to add another, with all the crap these guys are doing with not having permanent blueprints and trickling in battlepass items into mini battlepasses i can see them abusing that as well.
also the bastion has 50% resistance to literally everything except energy so yeah its still a good cabin even to this day. so how on earth would you even compare to that?
so long as its not as annoying as the nova then i guess itll be ok but still id rather not due to how they are handling blueprints and limited items.
Oooh, interesting stuff! So that’s the story the Bastion cabin has, I’ll certainly have an easier time appreciating it with that in mind.
Like my only remaining qualm with the Bastion now is that the “cockpit tower” in it pivots between “convenient mount for guns” and “awkward impediment”.
And I agree, I wouldn’t like cool new things being added if they’re gonna be exploited for funds like the rest. Way too many things in this game are too hard to acquire as it is.
Nonetheless, I crave to daydream of cool things, and nobody’s gonna stop me from sharing my daydreaming in here, so… here’s some extremely detailed and well done drawings (read: simple doodles) of a merge between the Bastion and Nova cabins:
All in all I think I just want a Bastion without a rusted frontal shield so I can fill said shield with decals like a knight’s coat of arms (and not have to use a Syndicate-themed CK, they’re just not my vibe).
the full story is upon its release the bastion cabin became insanely popular due to how it functioned. the plow on the front cuts all damage in half minus energy damage (helios, pulsars, etc) , so long as it hits the plow. if it hits the cabin itself it does full damage. one of its fusions also makes it so you gain 10% more resistance to everything. this made the bastion wildly popular and there were builds popping up all over using the bastion because of its damage absorbing capabilities. however the devs made the cabin blueprint temporary and when the blueprint went away the bastion climbed up to ridiculous prices. 5000 coins per cabin means youd need to waste 15,000 coins just to fuse the bastion and you werent guaranteed that the fusion would be good so you were taking a huge risk. the community went nuts wanting this cabin to be available because of the insane costs required to acquire one and even to fuse it. it took a while but the devs did eventually release it as a blueprint and as soon as they did the price of the bastion tanked really hard going from 5000 coins down to 1000 coins. nowadays its about 800 coins or so. but this just goes to show how people will treat limited items. they price gauge the hell out of it and make it so people overprice them because of supply and demand.
look at the rune-1 module as well. i sold one a while back for over 5000 coins due to a price surge for some reason. they were 1400 each but went up to 5k each for some reason. well that was the easiest 4k i ever made lol. still though you can see why this is an issue.
I think I finally got an idea of an effect this hypothetical cabin could have. Bastion-like resistances on the frontal shield (only lower, like 30% instead of 50%), and the added effect of what I assume is literally the Onamori (absorbs all damage on the shield until a limit, anything beyond just hurts the cabin, with the usual reduction if it’s not energy damage). It might be powerful, it might be underwhelming, but nonetheless, it’s fun to imagine stuff.
Also a visual effect of like a forcefield doing it’s thing when absorbing damage!
we have something for that, its called the omamori.
this idea is really bad. the nova is annoying enough being able to block most shots and recharging pretty fast. having a shield that absorbs a certain amount of damage before it goes down will be broken because of two reasons.
1: someone shoots your shield, it goes down. go hide till it comes back then take another hit. rinse, repeat.
2: it would encourage more of that nonsense play from others.
3: having 2 shielded effects on top of one another is broken, even if the resistance is only 30% for all except energy its still alot of damage reduction on top of the omamori effect.
4: the nova shield absorbs 500 points of damage before it goes down and enters its recharge state, this is 2 shots from a scorpion or 2 shots from a cannon. the shield lasts only 3 seconds but if someones running dual scorps or cannons then they can just cancel the damage, wait for the shield to recharge then come back into the open for another pot shot while canceling out the hit from the enemy.
i wouldnt mind a legendary bastion, however in the state its in the bastion is strong enough and i doubt anything can be able to top its strength in terms of damage absorption.
Fair enough! I dismissed most of my potential ideas for effects due to being “literally what makes both cabins insufferable for the enemy simultaneously”, it’s best to know why would that be from what I am certain is a more experienced POV.
