Let's share crossout memories

Let’s share moments and things that have stuck into our memory for whatever reason. Some good times from the lifetime of the game, it can be whatever, any kind of a thing that has stuck to your memory will do

At one point way in the past when engines gave reload bonuses I was playing a very bare bones build with basically just frames, ammo boxes, three phoenix, engine and the Torero cabin. No armor no decorative parts. I remember at the start of one match a teammate asked me “What does that build do?”. I told him “Watch this” and then shot the three bolts into the ground and drove over them and they exploded, popping my ammo and generator and blowing me up instantly. He replied with “I see” and I found the entire situation pretty funny in general.

I remember when I was just starting out, still very new to the game, I got a set of aviators (the smallest boosters). This was before runes, and when all boosters were 1 energy, long before the energy rework, before free packs, etc. One of the first things I made was a plane. It didn’t use any rotors (they didn’t exist yet). It was that “isotope” greenish paint you get when you start, and I put a gun in front of the “windshield” which was just a lunatic armor part I forgot the name of. It didn’t fly unless you went off a ramp, but when you did it went pretty far. I had to learn about weight distribution, and eventually added coolers/radiators for the lil machine gun. It was fun. I eventually made a “Flying_Levi” which was an upscaled version with more guns on the wings with the boosters. You had to take it off a ramp, and couldn’t take it to battle, but it was fun. I still have the OG plane, and the Leviathan version in my exhibition on PC, for memories. I’m sure they probably broke it since then, the weight might be off now after so many updates, but it was fun back in the day. One of my best friends also made a plane, and we flew together in bedlam, until we got shot down. I’ve made planes since then (I have V3 on exhibition and V4 yet to be uploaded), but I will never forget the OG.

I remember when I was about 6 months into the game, I hit a wall. I didn’t fully understand the relationship between cabins and engines and wheels and balance and shoot-thru parts, etc., and was struggling to make a wedge car like everyone else was using, with the stuff I had (which wasn’t alot). Getting nuked fairly often by dudes who I later found out were called “sealclubbers”. Out of the blue, another player offered me advice and showed me how to build a functional wedge car that worked. He also advised me which weapons to get, instead of the stuff I was using.

That one working wedge car started changing everything; I was getting more resources and was able to craft stuff on a regular basis and buy what I needed. That player no longer plays, but his effort to help me out was a major turning point for me.

A long-lasting nostalgic memory involves of my first builds during Open Beta that actually worked was, well, more or less this:

It was a rolling bomb, but that Fatman was both very chewy, and punchy. It was a good first-epic purchase, and I farmed a lot of fuel to sell off and make bank, back when there was so little of every resource available.

It’s so basic and antiquated today, but it indeed is a memory that comes back to me frequently in the context of Crossout.

  • I remember “The Storm” mode - best thing XO ever had. It was mind games of choosing either to shoot or don’t, reputation(people remembering who plays it hostile next rounds) Aggressive noobs canceling each other in the start. It was actually sneaky stealth game to stay away as long as possible often actually heading towards storm at start and moving with it… untill others got the idea xD.
  • I remember flying on booster sniper buiilds to high spots back when maps wasn’t patched with ugly invisible walls.
  • I remember harpoon attach time wasn’t limited, and I annoyed players and often drove them to frustration and desparation till they self-destruct(I used to harpoon them in a way that an obstacle was between us so they couldn’t kill me or escape)
  • I remember fuel barrels were so OP I often killed some enemies with small fuel barrel(ramming them from side and detonating their bottom mounted explosives. And I had small and big barrels as tandem charge so I had double boom when ramming which resulted in tripple boom when enemy’s stuff exploded because previous explosions opened way and my craft was still ramming:
Basically damage was:1. The fuel barrel has durability so it deals some ram damage before it explodes. 2. It’s explosion damage. 3 Durability of second barrel(placed on 2 pin distance so it didn’t detonate from first one alone) 4. Explosion of second barrel. 5. Ram damage from my vehicle(considering I blew up enemy parts with explosion so I was ramming rather softer stuff). Basically 5 ramming damage factors+enemy explosives. That’s fuel barrel warfare pushed to it’s practical limits.
(Using more barrels wasn’t efficient somehow, while I sometimes had actual fuel when I didn’t use them during battle). Sorry for too much words but just so you have the idea how epic and efficient it was. And it destroyed lances head on, basically trading their entire armament for 200 PS of parts, so they had to learn their lesson not to take me head on. And annoying Tusk booster cabs also launched upwards and some even exploded losing frames ramming my barrels  … omg sorry for so much on barrels but gosh they were good… and I think still should be.
  • Bastion 3500hp build at 5000 PS that used undermount vectors hidden deep(somewhat behind the middle with firing angle tilted up slightly by having racing wheels at back) Basically it won against shotgun huggers plague and could win against almost any of them while it instantly stripped them from weapons, and then kept shooting till it reach their fuel barrel due to locked in almost straight line… And it could reach fleeing runners because vector’s range and 3500 hp of bastion meant 50% damage ignored, plus I used averter, Grizzly co-driver… the thing was tanky AF for it’s PS. But basically I built it to win shotgun bricks at their game.
  • I remember I played almost 10k battles on some 4200 build with 3 defenders and 1 piercer thinking it was best thing at it’s PS in XO untill I found way better build and tactics and look back at it like “wtf was I even doing so long and being ok with it?”
  • I remember playing lances for one day.(invis, harpoon, wolvarine, all the set) It was fun at first but became so dull so fast I never tried it again.
  • I remember some buggy builds that could stay airborne unlimited due to bug of one build riding on top of other.
  • I remember some dude used build that looked like small church xD.
  • I remember the game when I made 8 kills when I was left alone vs 8 alive players(they were damaged and happen to come one by one mostly, that’s the only way it could happen, but still, impressive enough to only happen once in 30k battles).
  • I remember when PvE vs Leviathans was actually fun and mostly about burning them with incinerator catapult and blight cab. Those impressive amounts of damage and numbers… untill devs nerfed it all.
  • I remember some PVE raid was turned easy farm when players made special booster build that would accelerate truck so it hit speed limit and instantly destroyed lol… back when there was speed limit.
  • And there are tons of other misc stuff I don’t remember =(

Two cannon related memories, both having to do with accuracy and luck (mostly luck)

Two sets of homing missiles coming at me and my dual fatman build, I waited on purpose for the perfect chance and took one shot with one of my fat men at the cluster of missiles coming at me (panic fired blindly by accident) and managed to hit the missiles, the explosion taking out all the missiles coming at me. This was way way back when homing missiles could actually damage a build let alone follow it

Another was managing to blindly shoot a Tsunami from my spawn all the way to enemy spawn and pop something and kill a player like 3 seconds into the match. Luckiest shot I ever took and never managed to do it again
