Depends what your definition on “balanced” is.
Across the entire balance spectrum? Sure, they are annoying and unbalanced
Across the meta? Yeeeah, they aren’t.
Any flamethrower (or even Skadi) is bad UNLESS you pair it with Flash (Spark is basically worthless), and even then you can only pair Firebugs with Flash.
Any contact-based melee is basically a coinflip every time you go to the battle. You can’t properly damage legged builds, you can’t properly damage most tracked builds, you barely can damage hover builds. Even if you get alot of wheeled build enemies, it’s ANOTHER coinflip every time you drive into one. “Oh, sorry, you got unlucky and the enemy build somehow boosted away from you on contact, or wedged you. Try again in the next battle since you sure as hell wouldn’t recover from your failure in this one”
Yongwang is a solid weapon but on TWO builds specifically, and you need Omamori and Fin whale for them to at least somewhat function (imagine paying 15k coins just to get a playable build while Corax players just buy two guns for 5k total, plus 800 for Starter and 350 for Djannabi and degun you in 80% of cases lmao)
Underbelly builds are… okay, but you’d possibly wouldn’t destroy any meta builds. Unless you’re playing Triton build. Fugg that in particular, it should be nerfed to the ground, i hate it with all the fury in my heart
Lancelot and Tati also should be just deleted from the game tbh
theres people who want to bring back lancelots and boomsticks back to what they used to be. you know, run through 4 or 5 people before you run out of sticks making matches a 1 or 2 v 6… yeaaaaaaaah no…
imagine being the one player who gets 1 shotted and has to wait for the next match. sometimes you get 0 points to which is infuriating. no rewards at all.
thats wrong. flamethrowers heat up builds so they burn down FASTER.
i seen people run these on BWL builds and they are so tall that their tritons can directly hit the enemy cabin taking them out instantly with the explosion… its busted man…
See, if melee was totally gone, I would miss it. It’s part of the fun sometimes to just ram things and get up close.
My point is, that melees shouldn’t instakill, you should have time to struggle and the melee should be ocuupied by it’s victim for a time, so that teammates can use that as an opening to attack it. In the past, most melee builds felt that way, so I was ok with them.
For instakills, they have been a thing for a long time, but they never felt so out of balance like now. Sure, it sucks to get hit by lancelots right in the beginning and have to start a new match, but it’s ok if it happens rarely enough. The old instakill builds all had to boost like crazy and were hard to control, so they missed a lot and couldn’t turn around fast enough for another run before they got wrecked. It felt like you had a roughly 50:50 shot of either winning the exchange or loosing badly. My problem is, that tritions feel like they are easy to play and win more than they should. I have seen trition builds wreck multiple players in a row, no one able to take them down.
Those things have to be balanced somehow, either by taking some time (periodic melee damage) or by requiring some difficult maneuver (like boosting from a large distance and hitting at high speed, which is hard to control).
I don’t want to get rid of the crazy stuff, that’s what makes the game fun. But the crazy stuff should be hard to pull off. It stops being fun very quickly if instead of being rammed to death by one crazy dude in a hail mary maneuver once every 10 or 20 matches becomes half your team annihilated by a facehugger every other match.
I can laugh about getting lancelotted by a flying car ocasionally, no need to be a sore looser. But I want a chance to shoot him in the back when he careens out of control and misses. And I don’t want it to be a meta playstyle, it should be a niche thing.
That’s my feelings about it, you might disagree. But I think we can all agree that the current state is definitely on the “too much of that” side when it comes to overpowered melee builds.
the fun thing is: Melees are dogshit right now except literally two cases:
you have a flash on your build (basically CW Firebug only)
You have aforementioned instakills (Triton, Lancelot)
Don’t even get me started on true melees aka contact weapons. Womp womp sorry the game decided that the physics in this match are rigged in the 20% WN sheepie favour and you literally don’t wedge them with your Charybdis causing you to die. Thanks game!
The rest of melees actually require more skill than most builds, and i say that as someone who mained hovers in CW. Predicting where tf an enemy build will kite you is actually REALLY hard if the said enemy has more than 2 braincells and does more than just driving forward
I also want to elaborate on that in another post. Tritons are literally broken on so many levels you can’t even imagine.
First, their effective HP is off the charts.
323 HP. Already pretty OP, but it also lets 30% of the damage through, meaning for every 100 damage you deal to them, they only recieve 70. So 323*1.3 = 419 effective HP.
Then remember that in most cases its damageable surface area is literally 4-6 nodes.
Then also remember it has these batshit insane resistances (90% of the damage dealt by ramming just dissapears and they also take more than double contact melee damage to destroy)
WHICH ARE HIGHER THAN MOST OF CONTACT MELEE WEAPONS.
you know. That can’t deal damage on a distance??? Unlike the triton???
Don’t even get me started on that BS exploding perk which deals 2k+ damage like wtf lol i’ve seen literal fuzed lancelots dealing less damage than that???
And a fecal cherry on top of this diarrhea cake is how they somehow get stuck in your build so you literally can’t drive off if a braindead triton player decided to facehug you, either their collision is bugged or the game uses the same magnet trick from 5 years ago as a means to rig the match in tritons favour.
tritons need to have the explosion ability removed completely. ive seen people take out other cars sides or even half a build with just one explosive ram. if your going to have an explosive like that on a shotgun then it needs to have bad side effects to counteract the overpowered explosion in its ability. while its ability is active it takes increased damage from all sources AND its explosives can be shot to deal damage to its user.

yeah once one is on you theres no getting away, especially if its on BWL. i seen people on BWL just run into someone, hold forward and the fire button until its dead then onto the next one they can hook on their build.
on top of that if they hit your cabin with the tritons its practically an instant death. on BWL this is really easy to do cause of the height advantage to.

It isn’t a resistance param, it’s penetration parameter for bullet damage. It’s pretty low so it doesn’t matter at all there

True melee weapons have that, sometimes, rarely, if you’re lucky, and the game literally nudges the enemy slightly so they stay on your melee weapon as you chomp on them, they also can’t escape that unless you or the enemy change their speed drastically in a few frames, like ramming into a wall or using a skinner
