They are pinpoint accurate if you slow down. These weapons suffer from movement more than any other weapon in the game. Move 95 kph, they are garbage laser shotguns. Slow down until the aiming reticule is at its smallest, and they are 250m laser snipers capable of outdueling Punishers and Scorpions alike

That’s how Stillwinds are. They have great accuracy until they don’t.
So there’s no point having Athenas if one has Stillwinds already?..
They seem like very different weapons to me, although I’ve only owned Stillwinds.
Stillwinds have a lot more range, and require tap firing for accuracy, plus they have a huge explosive radius.
No they have different functions. Athenas are degunning weapons while Stillwinds pop generators and are de cabbing weapons. Athenas are more precise, Stillwinds have long range and huge splash.
Okay then, different one: does one need Athenas if they already have other degunning weapons such as Nothungs, Arbiters, etc?

I don’t think so. That depends on you. I have Destructors and Nothungs for degunning. I have been favoring Nothungs lately and my fused Destructors have been collecting dust. Same with rockets. I have fused Waltzs Crickets Pyralids and Locusts and only play Locust or Waltz.
If you collect too many of the same type of gun it will lead to redundancy and doesn’t maximize fun per coin spent.
But that’s just my opinion. Do what you want. I’m collecting every soccer paint. Another buddy is into duck decor. Maybe you like degun weapons and want the ultimate collection.

Well, yes, I got your point. My question was incomplete and you replied to both possible additions.
So far Athena isn’t overpowering in its role of degunning or whatever else can be done with it, therefore it is useful only if you need it for the collection or really bored with other things you have and want to try it (and have at least 12k coins to buy a regular set).
Yeah, Nothung is the real star now.
Considering missile launchers: I want to make a fun build with Steppe Spider and Snowfall. Rockets fly far and their damage (not DPS) is good enough to suffer -20% reduction. Maybe compare it with Walzt on Spider. I agree with you on Locust being good but I just don’t have them, only Pyralids…

I must say Snowfall is fun with the new Spider but it requires precision. And a specific craft type. And strafe, of course.
The model on these is really really good for building even without using an Oma.
IMO Athena is easily the most powerful non-relic weapon in the entire game. It can easily strip all small-medium weapons with 1/4 bursts, gets 4 more in rapid succession and doesn’t even take that long to reload w/o any modules. I would max out the build’s utility or alpha strike before going for faster reload because you can easily smoke builds so badly with one cycle. This gun barely has any damage dropoff and its the first ranged hitscan explosive weapon.
You really can’t go wrong with this weapon and it is P2W imo.
Abuse it as much as possible with a ghost trombone hover.
Destuctors are stronger and degun better, of you have the aim. Athena is a fine weapon tho.
Destructors have a lot less range, no explosion, and they don’t spread damage out to multiple weapons as well as Athenas, they aren’t as good at decloaking either. Missing with Dests hurts more than it does on Athena’s too.

Well, the explosive part can be avoided if any of 7 shots in the burts will be missed AND its base damage is not great (15 per beam).
But it seems like Athena’s range have been greatly increased. Stealthy increase, of course. Now it can hit the target at 450-500m.
It does feel like “too much of a P2A” weapon now. The only downside is that it’s not a good DPS weapon, unless you use Hadron and King (Flywheel is obligatory at this point). And it’s size. Still a huge thing.
