The simple answer is rotate your builds/play-style. It makes the matchmaker happy. I think it want’s to give you a 50/50 win/lose ratio, and will, if you roll with it by doing your dailies and switching up your play-style from MGs to Cannons, to Shotguns etc.
Even if that’s not what’s going on (wonky matchmaking), rotating your builds helps this go away, anyway. There are probably several reasons why rotating your builds helps, and the wonky punitive matchmaker stuck on whammy is just one of them.
Somebody mentioned squads dominating PVP, this is true, and rotating your builds will cause the matchmaker to set you into different groups away from those guys…and into more of those guys, probably, but at least they are different guys.
In short; don’t play the same build over and over. You are sure to get repetitive results…sometimes that’s a good thing, but when it isn’t, rotate your builds.
Ya, this topic comes up a lot. I wish they would just give us randomly sorted matches on random maps, like they say they do but totally don’t.
I’m sure they update the matchmaker from time to time, but they never tell us the how or what ever. It’s never “random” though. They are always cherry picked matches in PVP. The only thing organic about the matchmaker is the pool of available players at any given moment, and your personal performance.
I’ve been having to carry such garbage all evening… if I don’t straight carry its 90%+ a loss… I don’t know how peopel stumble through the game doing so completely awful… this one was just something else:
I see the matchmaker put you on the schit-list for over-performing too. You’re penalized by about PS 5K, with what looks like the lowest power-score on either team. That’s a lot, IMO. I suppose you should be flattered? That’s what I hear anyway, but loosing the match seems to steal my thunder and I don’t think it’s so neat. Then to do that repeatedly (bust ass to loose), meh…I log off and write articles for the Crossout forum instead.
It gets so bad that I get up to 19ks in my lobbies sometimes but what annoys me is when the players who are at the top of the PS chain in the lobby end up doing nothing… perhaps not nothing but not much for their PS. Very often I have to carry my matches or I lose… I only had 2 games today where I died and we won, every other match I’d do a quick scroll through the teammates and they’d be stripped or completely terrible builds and I’d compare it to what’s left and then just quit out to save time…
I know it sounds like ego and it surely doesn’t help but inflate it, but this is just from earlier tonight playing…
Well, I hear that, but the difference is I don’t tend to do so well that I can drag the entire team into a win very often. I do tend to need some team work. Any team work at all would be nice, but in PVP it’s pretty bad pretty often, as you say.
Time of day does make a difference for me. Late in the evening or early in the morning I find better groups to play with and against.
I think I find the power-score penalty to be more discouraging than you do, and I don’t bother playing very often or for very long because of it. I’m certainly not going to pay money to be cheated like that. I can do the free to play model if they like, and I think this game is fine for that, but I’d rather play an honest game for my money. I really don’t like the matchmaker shenanigans.
I spend most of my game time these days badgering the Monkey on this forum, or watching TV. I could hardly manage to log on today, and that’s all I managed to do. I looked at my dailies and said nope, sold some things and logged off. That keeps getting easier to do.
Crickets and Retchers, eh? I don’t have those. Maybe I should think about getting some. The Retchers are pretty expensive last I checked, so I’m not sure I see that happening.
Retchers died in price on my platform due to mass selling to get the battlepass ones via lighters, but regular ones are good, the catalina does make them pretty crazy
Yeah I do use a lot of my teammates as distractions when possible. But cloaking up to flanks someone works well, you can get 3-4 shots of Retcher in someones back before they turn around and by then you’re gone and charging the cloak again, that’s how I roll when I don’t have friendlies left.
The Retchers shoot backwards too which I swear so many players just don’t expect, I spend a lot of time shitting in a dog’s face after I bait them into a nice straight line or something
I have mentioned similar experiences like that in the past, and of those mentions have often been met with accusations that I’m lying about it. I’m not glad you’re suffering the same nonsense, but it is relieving that I’m not the only one.
I’m afraid I have Doc’s reaction to it. I find it annoying… not fun…
Once or twice might be amusing, but when you only get to play maybe once or twice a week, and an entire day of play is ruined by this, yeah…
That seems to be the only thing that seems to break the cycle. Even though I have multiple builds saved, the Matchmaker seems to remember different builds. Even swapping from one build to another, I keep getting beaten up by the matchmaker. I either have to log off and take a break, or build something completely from scratch to get the Matchmaker to quit being a butthole to me.
Yeah, sometimes I carry the team, especially if I’m really zoned in and making a true effort. Usually, though, I’m not. I haven’t been into Hardcore gaming on a long time…
I wish I could see that divided up on my own profile for my own knowledge. I don’t really care how other people play other than learning from them. It would be fun to see how I do versus humans and versus robots. Those are two very different play styles. Sometimes, I forget to switch my strategies when I switch between the two. Lol. That never happens two matches in a row, though. LOL
I’ve definitely has 4-5 unfinished matches in a row, I tend to quit out rather than waste time towards a loss and some of these happen in the first min of the match, it’s sad that you can tell a loss so early sometimes…
Again it happens tonight, although I only played around 7-8 matches… I want to test my Yongwang build as it’s been ages since I rocked it… The matches were going ok to start with, lost 1 match due to base cap because I was too busy feeding Andy… Having fun is risky, sadly I’m not entertained by sitting on cap in a meta build but I digress…
Then this next match was just wild, lowest PS, they had 4 hovers a miller and omni-dog build… and I have to drop a 3k as usual… I admit my 2nd place random held their own enough and did a good job being a spider tank while I had a few distracted, we exchanged ggs after.
It was a fun match but damn I stopped playing after, too tired for this shit so often, at least the team weren’t inherently bad this time…
Can’t wait for Cricket changes to test our my cricket rides… just as I start preferring Fortunes to Crickets I’m gonna be crawling back lol
Honestly same, last thing I did properly was R6 when I got my PC some years back, but nothing has really grabbed my attention, I didn’t get hooked on CSGO much after trying that… we’re in a lull for games, or at least for what I’d be looking for…
I went ahead and got me an Elephant while they’re still cheap(ish), built me a classic tank (T-34…ish), slapped a cloak under it, and emulated what I saw there the best I could. It works even for slow-ass trackity-tanks.
I finally got my Cannon Challenge done. I may have even enjoyed it a little…didn’t get any MVPs though.
I had a couple Hulks in the past, they were okay but since then there’s been better choices for me, cannons are the tanky and less accurate versions of weapons like Astraeus for example…
So I always feel like I have better weapons to fit my style. I always liked the look of the Elephants but they were always a pack only weapon that seemed better simply due to being a pack item like many before it.
Same, but do those other weapons count towards the Cannon challenge, or do you not worry with the challenges?
I learned to love the Assembler because it counts towards the cannon challenge. It makes a great sniper weapon, but can also fire in very rapid succession if someone gets up close. It doesn’t do quite the damage up close, but it’s pretty good… can’t tank damage like cannons, though.
IIRC, I have most of the turret cannons, but not the elephant. The projectile drop kills me… It’s so over the top dramatic & not the least bit realistic. They must be firing these with a deficit of gunpowder.
Elephant has much less projectile drop than Fatman (or any of the lower level turret cannons).
Run them with Jay for even less drop. Sure, they’re not as accurate as fixed angle cannons, but they’re not bad at long range.
I don’t care for the challenges, I’ve not bought a battle pass since before 2.0… It’s rare I do the dailies… I only focus on them when I get to Friday and if I have around 25/40 I’ll make sure to do them; the daily ones are just for winning so I’ll put an avenger on my car and do 5 patrols if i really really have to, but more often than not I can get away with not doing any out-of-the-way challenges like that for my 40.
I like my Astraeus, Athena and Toadfish as my kind of cannons, or at least they’re the closest to cannons for my playstyle.
