Staring down my first legendary soon, liking mammoths because they are cheap, seem decently strong, and are similar to my dream of owning mastodons. Currently running a heavy spider build will executioners (you may remember my old post, “New(ish) player, humpback or bastion?” i settled for bastion because i got one non-tradable from a crate.). I do want to run a clan wars spider (like spider with the goliaths and 8+ legs) someday, and i think mammoths would be a step in the right direction.
Just yesterday I was noticing that Mammoths are relatively cheap, and that I’ve never owned them.
I’m also considering getting a pair, although I’m not great with cannons.
mammoths are a solid cannon, they have high damage and alot of hp but they do come with downsides.
they have low trajectory, so you will need to practice with them alot to learn the effective range. the bullet has alot of drop and also the further you aim it the more the bullet slows down. at maximum range the bullet drop slows to a crawl.
they do have a decently long reload time so if you do run them id suggest a flywheel or a cyclops to boost that reload speed.
they also turn incredibly slowly to, so if a speedy build gets up on you well your cooked. unless you run legs, turn your build with your cannons and itll offset some of that slow turning from your cannons.
if you fuse them i would HIGHLY suggest waiting for an event then fuse them for projectile speed, this not only helps your aim but it makes it so that they can fire longer distances before the projectile loses its speed.
i have ran mammoths and mastodons myself quite alot in the past, what i can say is they are a very good cannon if you can hit your shots. they do require alot of practice though like i said but once you can master them they are a hell of a weapon to use.
I think they’re ok, they’ve kinda been left in the dust and forgotten over newer parts, but they should function good enough. Not an instant mvp machine though, and kinda suffers from the same problems as fat men, they’re ok but so much more stuff is better and offers a bit more exciting gameplay
Antique weapon for sure and at last for me it just lacks anything special or exciting, I rarely play my fat men these days because it’s kinda boring. They won’t be a mastodon replacement because sadly, I think that Compilers are more of a cheap mastodon due to having 2 firing modes.
But they’re not bad, there are worse guns to run for sure. Just kinda mediocre and lacking anything special
