Varun nerf - how about banning macro players instead?

yeah, tap firing an aspect without overheating is is pretty nice, stuff like this makes weapon testing pretty difficult, I had to test a few of the weapons in the garage in this way to gather data on them, still, oddly enough, using full auto on an aspect, still did more dps then tap firing, just that, full auto aspects are not pinpoint accurate

I refuse to play Aspects, Punishers or Assemblers because I don’t want to feel like a second class Wasteland citizen for not using a macro.

Because there’s people like me who get optimal firing times and dammage manually. Just like me with Helios back in the day.

Why would using a macro with Varun help you? There’s a relatively long window to release your shot and maintain the perk, so if it’s firing on a timer you’re going to miss more shots than if you do it manually.

And regarding Corvos, I noticed in that weird medieval themed brawl that the Corvo wagons seemed to unload the full clip when you held down the fire button. I know that’s not how they used to work, so did they change that and not tell us?

using a macro does not allow you to maintain your perk, using a macro would allow you to maintain your perk, while firing as fast as possible, macro essentially make 1% better, compared to a good varun player

yeah corvos don’t release their entire clip in normal gameplay, but you can rapid fire them, as quick as you can spam the button on your mouse

I just don’t get why “fast as possible” would be a good thing in anything but a close range situation. Is that how people are using it in CW?
I’m no expert with this weapon though. I picked up a couple because they were super cheap, and played around with them a bit, and if anything I wish I could wait longer before taking my shot in most situations.

They are OP macro’ed or not m8. They needed a nerf.

why wait? just shoot and then wind up again, the wind up is short, and the ammo capacity is massive, if you “wish” you could hold onto it longer, just shoot the shot and then wind up again, you will be able to shoot sooner then if you let the hold time run out and miss anyway, they have pinpoint accuracy and you can just spam them across the map, close, medium, far range, whatever it is, spamming works well

Why would you wait 5s between shots when you can just spam the crap out of it and outdamage everything else?

Who is talking about 5 seconds?
I’m just talking about taking advantage of the accuracy of the gun by using the full range of that perk window to take your shot.
I can still spam fast shots manually when I want to.
I don’t see it much different than tap firing an AC.

How about the Dev team stop adding perks that are easy to Marco?

Charging percs should be reworked.

I agree. I think Assembler does the right thing (more or less), by still charging dmg after reaching max accuracy. This lets you take time to aim without getting your DPS totally destroyed. If Varun did the same thing, there’d be less incentive to macro it.

Met a few more Varun users while playing with friends. One of my friends was like “the sweet rythm of macros” after spending 30s next to one of these clowns. “B-but maybe he was just that good?” yeah, if you can’t make the difference between a drumming machine and an actual drummer, even really good, that’s on you.

Ban the f*ck out of macro users before nerfing Varun into oblivion. I’m not denying Varun is too strong rn, but when the majority of its users are macroing, maybe your precious data is skewed, Targem.

Agree. This happens a lot in this game.

So I played Varuns for several hours today, and I am even more firm in my belief that macros give no significant advantage.
To be fair, I’ve been a musician forever, so clicking a button at a constant tempo isn’t exactly challenging for me, but I don’t think it’s really that hard for non-musicians either.
What I experienced is that if I keep to the quickest tempo (releasing before the meter even appears), I end up missing far more shots than if I actually pick my moment. If I take my time and hit my target, I can get Jay’s perk going too.
I found no advantage to mechanical clicking.
It’s just not hard to maintain the perk, and shooting fast is only an advantage when you get cornered. And even then, it’s not hard to keep your fire rate up manually.
The bobbing of my hovers was a much bigger issue, as it would block my shots and break the perk unless I arranged my guns with a lot of up/down firing angles.
Even if your timing isn’t naturally even, the reticle gives enough feedback that anyone should be able to pull off reasonably fast DPS.

“What I experienced is that if I keep to the quickest tempo (releasing before the meter even appears), I end up missing far more shots than if I actually pick my moment.”

You typed the answer, and yet you draw some weird conclusions. guess what happens if you macro and can focus 100% on aiming and positionning? You hit your shots. That’s why people macro.

I’m not saying it’s harder to aim while keeping a constant tempo, I’m saying that it causes you to miss shots because your vehicle hasn’t finished pivoting, or you needed to make a slight aim adjustment due to enemy movement.
Is it that hard for you to believe that keeping time is not a big struggle for a lot of people?

“Is it that hard for you to believe that keeping time is not a big struggle for a lot of people?”

No, It’s mostly hard for me to believe that there are people who’d go around claiming macros are useless as cheating tools in gaming. There’s just nearly three decades of online gaming proving you wrong (and the friends I have who are or have been into competitive gaming), and even in this game, Helios’ history is proving you wrong; but whatever. Some people would tell you red is blue just for the sake of being different.

Plasma emitters are much more spray and pray than Varuns.

why are you picking these hopeless fights?

on pc people have been macroing like theres no tomorrow with every weapon with more complex shooting mechanisms. a few of those weapons had their perks or firing mechanisms changed solely to counter macro users.
so the problem in general is real and everybody including the devs know it. they also know they dont ban for macroing, so chew on that.

what even exactly is your argument? should macroing be allowed? more likely youre saying its bad but it doesnt really matter with this specific weapon, right?

why not? because you dont notice it. just like in the great autoaim debates. but, as youre a musician, can you keep perfect timing while not concentrating on it at all? no you cant, not even if you were fully concetrated on just that.

meanwhile my mouse clicks 200 times a second in exact 5ms intervals (probably not that exact, given the polling rate is 1000hz). but much more precise than you will ever be. and absolutely none of my brain capacity is used for this, i just click once, maybe click and hold.

so there you go, you cant match the perfect timing of a machine, much less without focusing on it, thats why macros give an advantage.

i find the line of reasoning you seem so fond of weird: aiming is not so hard, so if people abuse the autoaim its alright. timing clicks is not so hard, just let people automate it entirely.
