Sometimes when I try to describe what Crossout is to someone who’s never heard of it, I realize that it’s kind of a combination of types of games.
And when reading comments on the forum, I’ve noticed that some people see it as a totally different kind of game than I do.
I was initially attracted to Crossout because I’ve always enjoyed car games, tank games, giant robot games, and building games. Crossout scratches all my main video game itches at one time.
I don’t really care much for competitive shooter games, or role playing games, or games built around a story, so I didn’t really notice until recently that other people approach Crossout from those angles.
In a way, I’m starting to see an RPG aspect of how I enjoy Crossout. I have a vague mental image of the kind of “survivor” I am, which informs the looks and function of the builds I make. I don’t interact with people in-game much, so my invented backstory is just for my own benefit, but it’s still there.
I’m not really a competitive person, but the introduction of Clan Confrontation has awakened that part of me a bit. The PS limit and solo play option allows me to feel like I can compete without having to play in groups or buy lots of packs. I’m even starting to dabble in high PS again too, since the BPs have provided enough legendary goodies to allow me play at that level.
I’m still not interested in the Crossout story and lore. Ravagers are cool, and I like the personalities of the various factions, but it all seems kind of incomplete and extraneous to the actual game. But I see people on the forum who are invested in the lore, and I’m glad they get something out of it.
How do you describe Crossout to someone who doesn’t know it? And what drew you to it? What keeps you playing it?
