Imagine other shooter games, but now your enemies are invisible.
Counterstrike with cloaked enemies.
World of Tanks with invisible tanks.
Call of Duty, but the enemy is invisible.
Gears of war, with now invisible enemies.
What is the benefit of cloak in skill based shooters?
To feed the trolls i guess.
Maybe they should release a throwback version of Crossout, with only the items and rules from the first year of the game?
There are definitely a few forum members that would clearly prefer a more stripped down and basic version of the game. No cloaks, no lasers, no hovers, no epic wheels, no omniwheels, etc. Bring back those “get the machine gun” battles, get rid of the current challenge system.
I don’t have any interest in that, but sometimes it seems that is the only version of Crossout that would make some forum members happy,
Boring.
No the game went wrong when they added cloak.
This was the pivotal point where the game was a skill based shooter game that turned into a melee and close range troll based game for people with no skill that spam their horns and holograms when they have successfully "surprised’ you.
The energy rework has made it a lot harder to fit a Yeti into the builds where it’s most powerful.
I know that none of the high PS bricks I made with it survived the energy update.
Anyway, the OP is not talking about Yeti, he’s talking about all cloaks.
Except that “post-apocalyptic” is a broad term. The clue is in the name: “events that unfold after the apocalypse”. Post-apocalypsis.
And the possibilities are endless. You just assume that there’s only one possible scenario because you’ve been fed with a popular piece of media in that genre. Half-Life series are TECHNICALLY a post-apocalypsis scenario too.
Ya know, here’s a quick scenario that STILL falls under post-apoc genre but doesn’t has this “rednecks in rusty cars fighting eachother” trope.
There’s a multi-national research corporation that has tens of thousands of scientists. It can produce life-changing things, but it’s bound by the government funding and ethic commissions. They could’ve make artificial organs, transfer your memories and consciousness into a fresh body or make affordable spacetravel, but they didn’t because government thinking it’s not important enough to fund or there are people like PETA who whine about every single minor wrongdoing, because they’re angels that are against all the evil and bad in the world.
But - boom! Bang! Nukes! Everyone dead! No good! Except all of these tens of thousands of scientists survived, because their facilities are well-hidden under the kilometers of soil. Now they don’t have to abide things like “ethics” or “government contracts” and they create a techological society. Think of a large Cyperpunk-2077 like city which harbors 99% of the world population (because some people besides these scientists survived too and now, if they make it, they can live in this city).
TECHNICALLY it’s still post-apoc. And it can make a baller book, game or whatever.
The fun part is? WE HAVE WADERKVARN IN CROSSOUT which is kinda the same thing. Ahem, Dawns Children, ahem.
In 2027 a mysterious viral epidemic known as the ‘Crossout’ swept the planet, countries and populations simultaneously began to fall at an alarming rate all over the Earth. Those who did not die in the first few days, were plagued by hallucinations and headaches, many people went mad and committed suicide. The source of the disease could not be detected but the cities that were once the vibrant social and economic beacons of humanity were left ravaged and deserted.
The media speculated on several possibilities concerning the nature of the disease. Some argued that radiation of cellphones and televisions was infected with a new synthetically engineered virus created by terrorists. Others thought that a virus corrupted the atmosphere following an impact of a large meteorite. Was this an evolutionary leap and the dawn of new humanity?
Many tried to escape the effects of the virus by using different protective measures: they wore face masks to filter the air and completely stopped using electronic devices in favour of more traditional means of communication. But it was all in vain: in just a few days what was once an epidemic became a pandemic unlike anyone had ever seen on such a global scale.
Survivors gradually began to change — after fifteen years of transformation, the changes became visible. The most noticeable metamorphosis occurred in the eyes of the affected — some began to glow, while others resembled black holes. To hide their unnatural looks and conceal the mutation, people started wearing padded clothing and sunglasses.
More than twenty years have passed since Crossout. Humans still remember their life before the disaster. As always, there are groups trying to recover the old world, while others enjoy the chaos and destruction. But there are those who are not human any more. They hide their faces behind masks, and their motives are unknown.
Not everyone in this world strives for chaos and destruction. There are also people who want to preserve our knowledge of the past, and the scouts from the Order of the Fallen Star are such people. These excellently armed and mobile solo soldiers have dedicated their lives to searching for artifacts and carriers of information of all kinds. No one knows where the Starburnts take the artifacts they find or why, but the curious Scar AB will pay decent money for any containers bearing their logo. New pieces are added to his artifact collection on a regular basis—the Wastelands hide danger for even the most battle-hardened veterans, after all. Scar AB is afraid that one day the Order will come for their artifacts, so his collection remains hidden. But on special occasions he puts up several well-protected exhibits for public viewing.
Wich sadly negates your wonderful story.
No almost everyone on the planet is dead in Crossout, and people are fighting for scraps.
If any of you played adventure about 1/3 of it is figuring out how the Ravagers cloak and how to replicate the technology… soooo… ignore that massive wall of text because it’s already in the lore of the game.
