Meta of Copters Already Changing?

The problem around pyres isn’t losing a 1v1 to them, they don’t win 1v1’s. The winning pyre players ignore you pelting away at them while nuking easy targets multiple times over the course of a minute while you are taking a minute killing just them. I can dodge very well but eventually aiming players have to hover/ fly in a straight line at reduced speed to engage something. They pick those guys off and the bots.
The most effective nest players focus enemy MVP’s and kneecap them as they don’t have the game winning damage of pyres. That’s what I experience from them at least and see on the scoreboard.
Trombones are fine tbh. I think they need a tweak and a buff, even in the mode.

Joules have been the best weapon I’ve used so far due to their turn speed, damage output, and damage retention over distance. They are superior to Therms by a huge margin.
I will be trying Parsers as they seem to be a very good weapon in heli mode.

This post definitely makes sense.

I play a tiny bit of pyres, it’s not about other helis dodging your shots. If you’re repeatedly shooting at an heli who dodges, it’s on you. It’s about nuking those soft, static targets while doing loopings no other build can do to dodge everything. Caucasus play the same, except their job is 1v1ing people rather than nuking unsuspecting folks. The ideais the same tho, click once and then roll your face over the keyboard, calling it “evasive manoeuvers”.

Other very successful builds which want the same targets than Pyres are good ol’ melee trucks. They just nomnom all the dumb ground bots, rack 3k+ points, easy wins in group.

Pretty sure Joule is the actual best weapon of the mode tho. Therms are so broken on helis already, and they’re so bad compared to Joules, I can only imagine what a Harpy Joule does in this mode U_U

Joules maybe at sub 10k. At 10k? Destructors reign supreme if you land your shots. I, uh, land my shots.

I’ve seen some people doing quite well with blockchains. I guess the perk is good for tearing through pass through parts and removing propellers.
I did ok with Therms on a Harpy, but I’m sure Joules would be better. Also seen what looked like undermounted tacklers doing decently last night too.

I’m really not finding the Pyre players to be a big issue for me. My build can take quite a few missile hits, and between cloaking, cover and diving, I’m able to avoid most homing missile attacks.

It’s possible that one of the reasons Pyres aren’t bothering me is that I’m typically focusing on harassing them. Trombones and nests on separate triggers, so I launch some trombones to get them to hit their cloak, then be ready with the nests to hit them as soon as they decloak, then some more trombones to make the nests hit harder. The pyre helicopters all have explosive bits, which harpy helps me detonate with my missiles.
And because of the trajectory of nests and trombones, diving doesn’t help enemies avoid them.

I’m still just using the 3x crickets on the spider though I decentralized the ammo and made sure it’s all mounted as fall away now. I do get harassed a little with Pyres and Hurricanes with the no cloak but as long as I haven’t depleted my ammo too much I can normally tank it a bit and return fire even if I loose most of the ammo crates.

I noticed it kind really of varies day to day on the PC how many auto lock and guided weapons are in play. I think the auto locks are harder to deal with though.

I’m really finding that maybe the most important point in BUILDING a copter is how far forward or aft you put the propellor compared to the bulk of the mass. This is especially true if you’re using guns, autocannons or cannons. You want a good balance of forward drift without having to go completely nose-down so you can keep a target in your sites as you chase them.

I’m generally mounting the props directly to the cab, but if you mount them higher up, it stabilizes your build quite a bit. This also makes dramatic evasive maneuvers like barrel-rolling into a pyre-avoiding dive more difficult, so there are trade-offs.

That’s definitely true…

I’m playing all sorts of builds in the copter mode, now. When I’m using pyres, I’m finding they’re only really effective - as in getting points for our team - if there’s someone who is a REALLY bad player & has no idea how to avoid me or if I can manage to milk their bots for points. Most players have learned how to avoid getting hit most of the time.

If I go for a good player, it’s solely so that I can keep their MVP from racking up too many points.

My brain doesnt even want to figure out good “crossout with flight” builds so i haven’t even tried to play this mode once.

Are there any good rewards because it really doesn’t even tickle my curiosity at all.

My build is pretty much a box. It’s not too hard to build for the mode.

The rewards are adequate for playing the mode fair amount of wires plus a daily 2 victory crate (stickers mostly, hologram, wind turbine for the garage).

Like I stated up above, HOW you build is almost irrelevant. I mean, there are some tricks I’ve learned, but for the most part, you could take almost any build you already have saved & slap copters on it & be good.

Some tips… you don’t actually need wheels/treads/legs. You don’t even need a frame. You can put a frame down, slap a cab on it, then delete it.

You’ll eventually want to armor left, right, front and back as usual, but add armor to the bottom since that’ll be exposed, now.

As you could guess from these threads, weapon choice will be different in this mode. Autocannons, guided rockets and the Caucus are pretty much the meta. Everything else is good if you just wanna NOT fly and stay on the ground, but if you do that & end up on one of the huge maps, you’ll spend the entire match trying to find something to fight. If you’re flying, anything short range is all but useless.

As for rewards…

The ONLY really good reward is the New Year’s Crate which gives your choice of a weapon. I think they were Epics. 1000 firecrackers and some resources, I think.

Everything else is either fusion stuff, which doesn’t seem much better than what you’d get if you just fuzed it outside of this event or decor & paint.

As for how to build… I mean, I’ve gotten MVP multiple times with a friggin’ Christmas Tree! LOL

Thanks for all the info. I did end up giving it a go. Its ok. I don’t really like the flying too much but im going to play a little bit for the rewards but i wont be putting much effort into my build.

Wrong mindset to go in.

rewards are worth, i’m getting between 20 and 30 wires per game (no premium account) it’s more than what i’m getting from missions. Sometimes i get even more than 30 wires.
So came out with the best build you can.

You don’t have to fly, you can go “on foot” and do ok or even well.

Millers, equalizers, drones, other miniguns, ACs, are good options IMO.

other weapons that are traditional strong in PVP are not necessary a good option in this brawl.

Im gonna play for the crate item thing but in these events im only motivated by decor n paint. I don’t worry about resources too much.

it will be some extra coins.
My motivation is very similar to yours.
I already reached the weekly limit yesterday.
I’m playing this back to back, i’m planing to do some extra Ks and take a rest from the routines of boring raids.

Just finished a match where the MVP on their team was a ground-only tank. I think he had Millers. City map… he just kept hiding in a parking garage near the bots & farming them for points. I tried harassing him with my Pyre Christmas Tree, but he was smart & would just duck out of the way when I fired.

I gave up on him & just went for bots. He outdid me, though… Good on him…

I got 1000 crackers in the first few days then stopped playing this event. (I only play an hour or two at night, since I work) Used 3 different builds. Didn’t spend more then 10min on each build.

Same here but i only have 1 build for now

That’s typical for me, but only about 2 or 3 days a week. I cram in as many challenges as I can to farm engineer badges. I’m getting more time recently because of Christmas and not having to work as many hours.

I knocked out the 1000 firecrackers or whatever they are, and have been trying to do two matches a day to get the decor crate.

I wish I had more time to play… being able to participate in Clan wars would be great.

I’m mostly just doing the two wins a day for the decor prizes, as I already got the crate I wanted.
If I finish all the weekly challenges that I intend to do, I go back to it for fun though.

Do we know what is in all the crates? What did you want?

Like the last event, you can choose your reward from a selection of epic items. I ended up grabbing a thunderbolt, as I’d never really given them a chance before.
Wish you could get more than one crate.
