Ya, so far the only thing I’ve seen that makes a difference is gear and guns.

Shape and form seems to amount to little more than piling armor on for health, like you said. I like it for the weight too. Since it doesn’t really matter much what shape I build it in, I can just shape it like whatever I want.

That one’s my old design with a little more beef, a stealth module, and a butt-load of gun-chill. I still like it, and it’s even more of a health-brick now.

I got a stinger missile copter.

armed with 6 pyre missile launchers, 2 of which have an advanced loader (ammo fused)

Also this thing takes full advantage of a the griffin and cloak combo, using the cloak to break any missile locks and the griffin to make sure no one can re lock while I line up my own barrages of missiles.

one thing I can say after playing an MG copter, rocket copter, and missile copter. those three play completely differently.

With MGs you are focused on getting in close and chewing things up aim is secondary to movement, rocket copters aim is primary and you need to keep your range at a distance.

Missile copters aim is well not to important but still needed to make sure your missiles are going to the right target, the big thing is movement as playing a pyre means any MG build will by trying to dog you for an easy kill as you h ave no close range defense what so ever.

Pyre and Cauc boys just tag you then roll their face over the keyboards, calling it “evasive manoeuvers”. It’s just sad honestly.

Seeing how there’s little melee, tons of missiles, and no cheetah allowed, I think devs should just tweak the parts a bit for this mode specifically. Longer reloads for Pyres, or shorter reloads for cloaks. “But missiles are counterable” yeah, they were back when Nest was everywhere too, didn’t make that crap fun or balanced.

Also, the f*cking maps. That mountainous giant pile of crap should be removed instantly from the game. Easily the worst map you ever released for the game since Crater. No cover, 99% of the game’s weapons just don’t have the range, it’s hell for ground vehicles… It’s just so terrible and favors weapons that do not need help in this mode.

Otherwise, it’s a fun mode. I really hope we’ll be able to keep the heli blades, and have it either as a PvP Brawl during the week, and/or a PvE raid that allows us to bring helis. Haven’t had that much fun with the game since the old racemode that Targem destroyed and then abandonned.

Exactly. That’s what our buddy Clebardman apparently doesn’t get. The easy kill thing and the fact that it’s impossible to hit a drone-player with pyres are why I quit playing them for the most part. There are still 7 plus weeks, and after 3 days I already see the meta changing from pyres to drones and MGs. It’ll be interesting to see where this is towards the end.

In my testing so far the following have the best DPS an DPH outputs.

THINGS THAT WORK

Mgs, any but the sinus is freaking evil espcially a quad one wiht a tap fire build. damn thing can melt anything if built right.

Autocannons, stillwind is really good for its damage per shot a twin wind can easily chunk most copters do to the shape and how spaced armor doesn’t really work on a copter purely do to the ability to hit from above or bellow.

plasma: yeah all these are really good especially a catalina power unit plasma copter, the problem is aiming they require the most aim skill out of any weapon that is good in the flight mode.

cannons: tripple cannons are really good for air to ground and close range air to air.

drones: wingmen are wing men, running two 4 energy drones, and a reaper or miller is a really good way to rip things apart. Also annilater drones are just pure evil.

rockets: like missiles but require a bit more aim. (including flute in this one.)

that one laser cutter… and the spartan laser want to be weapons: These are freaking powerful once you get into range you will be blowing people in half, just 2 sidemounted on the nose of your copter and boom nothing is living.

WHAT DOESN’T WORK

TOW: doesn’t even work in the base game, I don’t know why I tried.

Wheel drones: while yes they are actually really good if you have a copter that can drop down and deploy them on a ground target, they lack any AA making you a sitting duck, and what ever you do don’t use fuzes.

Turrets: While yes the rocket one is ok, as it is a constant AA fire especially if you drop it on a building or something where the bots can’t get to it, the other ones are ocmpletely useless.

explosive melee: booms work for Air to air duels if you place them right you can knock a guy out of the air for good. but requires a lot of skill, that said their one off nature and the fact it requires 2 of them to do so makes them near useless said energy is better used on a trombone cloak and radar, or pyre then any set of booms.

Passive melee: Just no.

Most shotguns: you are doing maybe 1 damage per shot. maybe. the exception is of all things the Arthron and founders shotguns (including the nailgun) do to their range.

Oh someone really needs to test flamethrowers, in my tests the remedy flamethrower varried from really good to borderline useless and I can’t figure out why, I can tell side mounting it made a big difference but well it was to erratic for me to get a good read on. especially as I Had to land to charge the blight I Was using with it.

At some point, the constant alarm of more incoming missile spam became too much for me. The incessant nagging of that thing alone was enough to get me to quit. So, I decided to dodge the missiles by flying under their power-score.

That one’s at just under PS 3.5K, and I’m not even sure if it has an alarm. I don’t know, because their were no missiles anywhere at this power-score. It was nice, and was the most fun I’ve had with choppers since this event started.

Since the alarm system doesn’t need to be armed, I’m thinking I need to set it up with a radio, and maybe some John Fogerty would be a good fit for this rusty fish.

I have 3 builds. A kaiju, a quad sinus and a triple parser. Parsers seem to perform best out if the three.

Really? I’m not doubting you, I’m just surprised. I can see how they’d work, I guess. I have two, but haven’t tried them figuring shotguns would be a waste of time, but since you can “charge” the Parser… I’ll have to try that out. I imagine you could utilize some module/cab combos with those, too in a copter.

This is my most recent Therm helicopter. Its very nasty as it can easily engage a very wide vertical slice, so players above can still get smoked. It sits at 5.5k where autoaim is generally very squishy and most ppl are using aimed weapons. The guns are also mounted on an averter.

N107 WINGMAN

The kobold is at it again, this time the nomads ordered a traditional copter no outside parts except armor. and He delivered. the wingman as it is named is an air support copter, armed with two hawk drones which are held in and old disused infantry bay in the rear of the copter. The left side has a mounted with the copters main gun, a reaper with 1,000 rounds of ammo. this gun is designed to deal with light armed ground vehicles and heli’s its ability to keep constant fire and its tracers even allowing for long range peppering of enemy vehicles.




UPDATE: after some time on the field the Nomads quickly requested a varriant for long term combat. armed with plasma teh N107B wingman can spew a lot more fire down range, and even c an tank more fire as it doesn’t have the open center for deploying those hawk drones.

Built a sky crane called “Fathers Eyes” the all father sees all, and gives gifts of food and water to the good wastelanders, rarely it is rummored he brings whole armored cars.
