The problem with the new ammo system

i dont understand how you played through every single update for the past few years and this is the one to get you to quit. this game was not worth playing at all for a while and the only thing this update could ever do is improve it

Actually I did quit for about a year after one of the updates when they added Heli’s a while ago but came back and gave it another shot. All of a sudden they decide to add an ammo count to machine guns after there being no issue since Beta I had the same build for years and now it’s useless ya it was just the straw that broke the camels back I am out this is by far the worst update to date…

Guys, just slap a small rare ammo pack on your MG builds and stop making this out to be the end of the world.

Things were not ok the way they were, and I say that as someone who has likely spent more time playing MGs than any other weapon type. They had become OP, and something needed to change that, beyond just another damage nerf.

From what I can see so far, the change has been very effective at shifting the meta away from where it has been for a long time, and that is a good thing.

I know that any significant change will always result in a bunch of people threatening to quit the game, but I really wish people would give changes a chance before they run crying to the forum.

This is not the kind of game where this is going to be a viable strategy. It’s a building game with thousands of parts to work with. It’s delusional to think you can make one good build and expect it to remain strong for years without ever modifying it.

you don’t get it m8…i couldn’t care less about the ammo part (though it was a mechanic that was there since day 1…and now it’s suddenly a problem?!?)…and i’m all for removing hitscan from mgs and such…that is NOT the problem…

the reason i’m done with XO, is the FACT that constant rebalancing WILL NOT solve the great majority of issues the game has had and this is just a “smoke and mirrors cure” which tells me that they will ALWAYS just fall back to rebalancing over and over again…instead of really trying to resolve the problems that the game has…not to mention that this solved nothing! it just “downgraded” the weapons people were bitching about…that’s all this update did…wait a bit and you’ll see that eventually.

instead of wasting time on an update that just screwed over a part of the items in favor of other items, what they COULD have done:

-double ammo for cannons and homing rockets (people were whining about low ammo count)
-increase other weapons (miller, GLs and such) ammo count by 50%-ish
-add more codrivers to balance weapons that benefit from them and weapons that don’t benefit from them as much (not all weapon types benefit equally from codrivers as you know)
-use RANGE to “nerf MGs” (as in short range = full dam ; long range = half dam ; over max range = no dam)

it would have been quicker (which would have given them more time to come up with more game modes, playing fields…etc) and less painfull for most builds (forcing ammo boxes), but instead they chose to waste time on constant rebalances…which will just spawn more need for rebalancing all the items affected by this update…untill they’ll just get stuck in the “rebalancing loop” (which killed firefall in the end, as i mentioned)…so i simply have no intention of wasting my time on a “rebalancing loop”…that’s all…

ok so dont complain about the update but about the game. we know the game is shit, this update didnt affect that fact

yeah they were though. and its not the mgs that became op, its the builds that ran them. bricks are to tanky and helis dominated with them as well. the simple solution to this problem was to just add more base ammo to all reloading weapons but noooooo they had to screw everything and just slap ammo on every single build. idc that they removed hitscan either, i think its fine. but the way they went about this is absolute nonsense.
the problem here THEY said was that cannons and guns with limited ammo ran out, well add more fricken ammo to the base ammo or let people drop ammo crates to replenish ammo, dont fuck the entire system by making literally every single gun in the game have ammo and ruining a balanced system we already had. many MANY things will need to be changed in the game due to this. abilities on cabins, weapons, etc will now need to be changed according to what they did. this is going to take multiple updates and a ton of developer time to do. knowing them they wont do it unless harassed about it.
though the idiots on reddit seem to be ass kissing to the 9th degree but reddits always been toxic.

ive seen countless rebalances over the years and the balance to adding ammo to everything was the most bullshit thing i ever herd. alot of the weapons now have become next to useless.
and what happens if this doesnt work? oh they will take away some ammo here and there to guns, they will be testing more in the test servers to the TWO people who actually use the test servers then base their balance changes on that nonsense. i only play raids and pve myself but even i was pissed at this update. they had other solutions but they smashed the “fuck everything” button and ruined the game. this will require countless balance updates, countless ability changes and countless patches and more just to get this shit down right. this is just so stupid.

again, a simple solution but they didnt care. also i doubt the devs will do anything more. they tend to abandon everything so i dont have hope for any of these updates. the toxic people on reddit are defending this garbage to.

I’ve complained about some of the aspects of the past dozen updates like many others have. It’s annoying when favorite builds suddenly become underperformers and I have to rebuild half my stuff. I get it. The difference is, I enjoy the game (keyword GAME) for what it is. I don’t care if I’m in a mission getting pounded by bots using scorpions. It happens, it’s aggravating, but at the end of the day, I enjoyed my time playing. It didn’t cost me anything. My self worth hasn’t increased or decreased. I’m not looking to show off great prowess towards other players or obtain every item in the game. I don’t agree with everything the developers do, but they have a great game and put alot of effort into it.

Jeez, I play chess too, and I think the way the knight piece moves is stupid as hell, but it doesn’t make me blackball the game and stop playing. Lighten up. I didn’t like adding ammo boxes everywhere, but it’s done, and now I’m back to playing the game and still enjoying it.

There will never not be a meta.

It’s been a problem for a while now, they just got around to solving it.

And… what are they? Hitscan was the big issue here.

Sprawling unorganized game architecture, IMO. They just keep rolling this turd in more sugar instead of addressing it’s underlining issues, and it’s not helping.

Its funny how people try fix things with ammo boxe in the back.
Do you play rated ?
Ammo on all weapons its a day and night change in all of my build and its only for the worst.
Op build like for ex melee still the same.

It does change ps which its already very bad but now i have to choose to run with a 1 or 2 bomb in build and die easly quick or ammo box out run out of ammo mid game because they shot it.
In pvp there is build that have ton of life and take a lot to take them down.
Etc…

But some guys doesnt see any difference. They can play with 1 blue boxe in their back and that is. lol

not to mention…you’re all bitching about MGs…then what about “other underperforming weapons that had no ammo”?
now those weapons will underperform even more…so how is that a fix in the right direction…
don’t just hide behind MGs…what about all the other non ammo weapons vs. ammo using weapons…

HERE’S A TIP FOR YOU MATE:

try to make a car with each weapon…and don’t put an ammo box on any of them…how many ammo using weapons will still be the same as before…how many non using ammo weapons will perform as good as the ammo using weapons…how is THAT ballanced?!?

This is a very weird thing to argue.

If you run cannons or missiles without an ammo box, you are going to run out of ammo. If you run MGs without an ammo box, you will run out of ammo. I have no idea what you are trying to say here.

think harder…if you manage to figure it…it means you still have a functioning brain, and are able to see why i said this update fixed nothing

I think I agree. The game isn’t much different than it was prior to the update, and all the problems it had before, it still has…plus a few?

To me it feels worse, since the damage from all weapons is now more consequential and devastating. This has led to a Fatman-Brick META to compensate for the only real change in game dynamics; increased build fragility.

People still have plenty of ammo, but now that ammo is buffed and heavy armor has become more critical, and due to being required to carry explosive ammo packs, light and medium builds are much more vulnerable.
